Prince, I guess its a rumor as the title suggests.
Yes, even I speculated this many months ago in the Panigale 1199 thread... (But, I'm not saying I started the rumor, or did I?)

Its blaringly obvious that 848 is their supersport representative which can benefit a lot from the recent upgrades to the 1199. Typically, the Monocoque, the electronics, the all color elaborate instrumentation, mass centralisation, brembo monoblocs, etc. can all be transferred to the 749-848cc, whatever it will be.

If the 1199cc version manages 195bhp, that puts a 750cc model at 122bhp – close enough to rival 600s and 675s
This is a really funny way to calculate Power.

Its just an approximate way and slightly justifiable, because Low displacement machines can rev higher due to less piston speeds so power is on their side, and on the flip side of this argument, high displacement machines can be tuned in other ways, apart from bore x stroke (without losing much torque down there) so even they make up for their lack of revving...

          Ducati 798 Desmosport R Concept

Much has been speculated about the alleged Ducati 799 Superbike that surely is being planned in Borgo Panigale this very minute.
Connecting the dots with the Italian company’s product roadmap, Ducati surely has a smaller-displacement version of its 1199 Panigale
in the works, though what it will be called and what displacement it will use is still the subject of much conjecture. Today Oberdan Bezzi
takes us back down that thought process with his Ducati 798 Desmosport R concept.

A supersport-market model, Bezzi’s focus is not with the water-cooled 1,200cc Superquadro motor, but the tried and true DesmoDue
air-cooled lump currently found in the Hypermotard and Monster lines. Looking for a €9,000 price point, 100hp power figure, and 365 lbs
dry weight, Oberdan Bezzi is striking the same vein that Radical Ducati and NCR have been touching on for the past few years, albeit at
different ends of the price spectrum.

Clearly taking some design and technical cues from the Panigale, the Ducati 798 Desmosport R concept still features a traditional
Ducati trellis-style frame (sorry frameless chassis lovers). It seems unreasonable at the price and performance spec mentioned that
the Desmosport R concept actually be a 800cc-ish machine, given that the 1,100cc version of the air-cooled twin puts out a paltry
100hp in its EVO form. Still, a lightweight air-cooled Italian sport bike? That is something Ducatisti have been clamoring about
for ages — thankfully Pierobon built one.

Not close enough to rivals. They need 750cc motor to match the power of others' 600cc. Why are these guys so reluctant to consider more than 2 cylinders engine?

I think compared to this design, inlines are going to be more wider. And I'm not sure if the inlines can take such a frameless design. And what else do we have expect inlines for a racing engine? Err... Nothing. We can't use a boxer here. Ok, maybe V4...

Anyways, V Twin is the Ducati character and they can't make it have more cylinders than its bigger brother itself... can it?

@ Satyen: True, but the article does mention that it is in making... As of now, we can have renders and estimates only.
I estimate it to have an all new 749-799cc V-Twin engine. It should rev upto around 14k and give some 125 bhp at crank, but weigh under 160 kgs wet. But of course, my estimate is just another estimate off the internet world...
