New KTM Super Duke 1290 spied

KTM's all-new 1290cc V-twin Super Duke has been spotted strapped onto a trailer in Tenerife as the prototype machine undergoes endurance testing before its launch later this year.

It is clear from the picture that the Austrian firm is using a modular design concept - the main chassis, engine and fuel tank of the naked Super Duke are identical to the Adventure seen last week.

The picture also shows the extent of the Super Duke's redesign. There is little remaining of the current 990cc V-twin super naked which has kept its hardcore nature since its launch in 2005.

The bike has a new LC8 engine, completely new steel trellis chassis, a single-sided swingarm to replace the double-sided version of the current bike, a new side-mounted exhaust and it appears the bike is getting a full compliment of electronics judging by the number of sensors on the bike.

now things seem to be heating up in KTM. It seems the big daddy duke 990 has finally got the much needed bigger brother... it looks like it does have been giveN a line or two similar to the modern smaller dukes' design language and yet they seem to have given justice by also keeping in line with the traditional futuristic sharp as a ninja blade like naked looks that the 990 is already known for... the single side is a warm welcome if you ask me and gels perfectly and seemed to be the only element missing in the old duke 990 to complete the European naked look.. now with that also filling the gap,the package looks most complete...one of the sexiest nakeds going to be available ...if you ask me...so much more bad & brutal...got only one word....MENTAL....
ps.hmm now where have i seen similar looking air scoops on tank like that on a recently launched indian motorcycle....? hmm any way its super nice...

Getting bigger in the times of oil crisis?? Good!

So, will it be 1290cc only? And what are its category competitors? BMW K1300R? Or Tuono V4? Can't be the Busa though. Well, let's see if any specs & perf. figures come out then only we can confirm its category...

This implies that a newer more powerful RC8 may also be on the cards!

Looks quite intimidating to me with all the machinery under that hell of a tank.

The ground clearance seems pretty less. I guess KTM would have to lift that engine a bit up if it comes to India, considering our insane height of speed breakers on the road.

Never the less hell of a bike.

                        And how?

Duke is a street machine, so they can probably break the category rule, but RC8R?

@Samarth Not the RC8R,I meant the street version i.e RC8 also may be upgraded to ensure that it can match its current competitors 1199, S1000RR & RSV4 to be specific. It was originally made to compete with the 1098 hence the similar power.More powerful may not necessarily mean more displacement since many sources on the web say that the current RC8 makes 155HP approx. The 1198 made about 178HP so, there maybe revision in terms of tuning and electronics packages without breaking the category rule of 1.2 litres.

@ Vignesh: I think the original RC8 was some 1145cc and now its discontinued, or you can say its updated to 1195cc RC8 R.

(If I remember correctly, RC8's last remaining units were sold 2700 Pounds cheaper than its original price (almost equal to ZX6R), and I covered that news for Xbhp?)

Even if RC8 was here, there's seemingly no connection behind the new SuperDuke and a new RC8.
