NEW DELHI: The Haryana government today approved a Rs 2,000 crore unit of Suzuki Motorcycles that will come up at Rohtak.
The first phase of the project will entail an investment of Rs 500 crore and will be completed in 2014 with an annual capacity of 5-lakh units, officials said here.
The total cost of the 3-phase project is estimated to be Rs 2,000 crore, with a capacity of 2 million units by 2019, they said.
Besides Japan's Suzuki Motorcycle, which has a unit in Gurgaon, Hero Motocorp, Honda and Harley Davidson already have plants in the state making it the country's mobike hub.
Haryana approved Suzuki's proposal at a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. It was also attended by state Industries Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala and Managing Director of Maruti Suzuki S Nakanishi and other officials.
Nakanishi told Hooda that the plant will commence production in 2014, HSIDC Managing Director Rajeev Arora said.
He added that the 50-acre unit will provide employment to 4,000 people and generate indirect employment opportunities for thousands more in the nearby region in terms of vendor manpower, logistics providers and service industries.

Gurgaon's advantage of being close to Delhi NCR, and still relatively unaffected by UP's woes, is going in its favor as it moves on towards being an IT and Industry Center... Wish Suzuki all the best for this plant. And we hope a lot of youth get employment from this plant.
Speaking of employment, there's a bad news from Suzuki Motorcycles too, but its another story, to be discussed in another topic which I'll post soon...
