  • Now Take your bike for a spin on the Buddh International Circuit

NEW DELHI: Indian motorsports broke new grounds with the inaugural Airtel Indian Grand Prix last year. The world appreciated the effort that went behind India's first Formula One track - the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.

A Herman Tilke-creation, the 5.14 km track was appreciated by the entire F1 paddock for its technical nature and billed one of the most exciting circuits in the 20-race calendar. Now the general public will get the opportunity to take their cars out on a spin on the F1 track with the owners Jaypee Sports International Limited (JPSI) coming up with Open Track Day. The first of these track days will take place on April 22.

"Mercedes-Benz already has a tie-up with JPSI and regularly organizes track days for its customers. We are sure it will be a thrilling experience for the participants to get a small taste of the F1 world," a JPSI official told TOI on Wednesday.

There will be six track days every year, first of which takes place next month. On each day, there will be three sessions for cars and one will be kept aside solely for bike-riders.

"In each session 30 fans will be able to take their personal vehicles for a spin around the track. The cost for a single session has been pegged at around Rs 8,500 and if a person books its for three session, he'll have to shell out Rs 20,000," the official said.

For bike-riders, the charges have been pegged at Rs 6,000 for a session. The Open Track Day will be between 7am and 6pm.

The registration for the first track day will open next week and the forms for the same will be available of the Jaypee Sports website.

    It's open for all

There will be four sessions - 3 sessions for cars and one session for bikes.

Each session will see 30 fans driving their personal cars on the track.

For cars, the price for a single session will be around Rs 8,500. If a fan books himself for all the three sessions, he will have to pay Rs 20,000.

For bikes, the price will be Rs 6,000 for a session.

There will be six open track days in a year.

After this news coming hot on the heels of " Now, overspeeding can drive you straight to jail - The Economic Times " <- this one, I feel BIC is going to have to arrange for more than just 6 track days a year. With nowhere to drive/ ride their expensive cars and bikes in and around NCR, this will be where everyone would head to.

The only problem being, your regular insurance will not cover expenses if you happen to crash on a racetrack. So that track + health insurance covers will require an additional expense up and over the charges mentioned above. But quite worth it considering the new fines which will be in the tune of Rs. 5000 for overspeeding once in a day, Rs. 6000 for an entire session seems quite VFM.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Finally things are moving in the right direction. Still a little pricey but here's hoping more track days are organized and the cost comes down or something similar to trackdays from CSS/TWO Racing/Apex Racing takes place here.

Time to save up for a track suit.

hmm, gooddd.chance for us to grab a taste of international track experience.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

although its good news.. still i feel the price is too high

as for the south .. the MMRC had around 500/- per session 2 yrs back and for the coimb'r race track it was around 2.5K

i might be wrong with current price ..but it was the scene 2 yrs back

                This is north India.

They better keep the prices high, not just for revenue. But also as a deterrent to ensure that every tom dick and harry doesn't land up there.

People who went to the Auto Expo this year will know what I am talking about!

Keeping price high is no solution to entertain quality people only. I've seen a helmetless rider in shorts & T shirts on the bigger CBR and many others on different sbks.
The richer Tom, Dick & Harries will find a way into this track, while the poor bikers would be left out. Truth it is.

Of course, to some extent it works out like you said... A certain commuter group will never make it to this track due to the price being high so we'll see some enthusiastic population there for sure.

Great news. It's an official FIA approved circuit so its enough for us that they let us drive where Schumis and Vettels have ridden. Comparing the price to other tracks' is not a wise idea in my humble opinion

Great step by JPSI. Any idea if spectators are allowed to see the proceedings for free?

I am not sure if the price can be declared high or not. But I will pay it. This is an international track and not just a domestic track for hosting local races.

Participating as an individual in a track that hosts F1 and would host MotoGP in future wont be cheap. Its definitely not for people whose primary intention for buying a two wheeler is to have an affordable vehicle to commute.

I feel this is where the clubs come in! Rent it for yourselves for a day and let your members pool in the money and satisfy their speed thirsts safely. The pricing is good IMO, I hope it includes lap timings, marshalls and ambulances.
