  • March 2012 2W Sales

Posted below are the March 2012 2W sales (Sales reports of Mahindra 2 Wheelers are awaited and will be updated as soon as they are made public) with their proper links.

    Highlights:

Hero Moto: The world's no.1 continues to steam ahead.. but the pace of growth seems to have slowed down.

HMSI (Honda): The current sales superstar. The new plant for producing the Activa scooter seems to have done the trick. The waiting list for the Activa has come down drastically and the "aam janata" still seems to want more.

1,38,134 scooters in a single month..!! Phew..!!

TVS Motor: TVS seems to be losing steam.. the rise of HMSI adding to its woes.

Yamaha & Suzuki: Growth of both these companies are comparitively better and in double digits. Nevertheless in overall numbers both these companies are still far behind.

all of a sudden honda is speeding ahead and that just because of activa?can someone clarify that is it just because of activa?
tvs is doing usual business with no news on upgraded rtr.
yamaha is growing due to their hatke product line up,but considering the line-up yamaha have they should be doing even better business.
hmc, well i won't say anything about this company.
baja,i don't need to say anything ,they are the king of sales as always.
      mahindra is going unnoticed.
suzuki need to open up more dealership to boost up sales, they have potent machines in their hand.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.
      #overkill is underrated.
#how random roads may appear there is always a destination.sigpic
#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

TVS - this company is on a free fall. It WILL phase out of the market (just as how Yamaha almost did before it launched the FZs and R15 back in '08).
A revised upgraded RTR is the need of the hour. But I guess, they aren't interested in doing business in our Country.

HMSI - the Activa is the sole bread winner here. Superb performance.

HMC - this company is "defending" its top notch by not checking inventory at all. Dealers are racking bikes at their homes due to the lack of space at the showroom/godown.

Bajaj - Where are the sales figures? :S

Yamaha - its doing pretty well now.

Suzuki - their overall sales even if low seem to suffice their need.

Mahindra - Since when do they sell bikes?

From the above mentioned HMSI numbers:

Out of the total 2,20,487 numbers in March, the share of motorcycles was 82,353 (33%). Scooters accounted for 1,38,134 (67%).
No prizes for guess which particular HMSI scooter racks up the highest numbers in India.

Honda zooms past 'Hamara Bajaj' - The Times of India
It's true most of this sale is towards clearing the booking backlogs...
But then less waiting period will also evoke buyers interest in Honda products, which otherwise would have gone for other products because of unbearable waiting period Honda use to have, Same happened with Maruti Swift/Dzire, after the new plant became operational the sales figures zoomed...

Sounds like K Srinivas, president of Bajaj's motorcycle business has been rattled. He said, "One swallow does not a summer make... We are indifferent to someone else's sales of scooters or mopeds as its irrelevant to our business."

I agree that one sales figures does not give an overall picture. However the use of words such as "indifferent", "mopeds", "irrelevant" are clear signs of anything but indifference. Quiet a childish retort I must say. Its clear, Bajaj's has a different strategy as oppose to its competitors. So there was no need to come out swinging.

It will be interesting to watch changing dynamics of Indian 2wheeler industry in FYI 2012.
With Honda and Bajaj being so agressive for No. 1 Position
Hero and TVS being duds with no new products
Yamaha and Suzuki being in there own worlds...
