The point is, are the complainants sure that their tormentors are riding SBKs or smaller capacity bikes fitted with loud pipes?

Seconded! They ain't getting enough salaries these days I guess.Originally posted by julianpaul View PostAbsolutely right, most of the times you hear an SBK go by it's already long gone, and the sound isn't half as loud as say the CONTINUOUS honking in bhendi bazaar. Seriously someone should send these cops to mohammedali road at 6pm and pull out their decibel meters.
And if we were to say that it's the few bad apples, i.e. the revvers who have brought this on us, then what about the cars etc.? This is clearly another cops-picking-on-bikers story, nothing else."Never recreate from your memory, always imagine new places"

Have you guys heard "firecracker" mod on a bullet?
About a month ago when I rode to Veraval near Somnath, I heard a ear shattering boom. My cousin who was riding with me told me that it was a guy on bullet riding behind who did that! Surprisingly posers have found a way to create a detonation by using combination of kill switch and throttle which resonates in the specially moded pipes giving out an loud mating call to brain dead females. This is the type of people police should be fining. I wonder if you guys have seen such a "FATAKDA" mod?Last edited by cicatrix; 04-10-2012, 12:51 AM.When in doubt...... Gas it!

i don't know what the decibel limit for two wheelers in india is?
but police should not fine any stock exhaust bikes, otherwise its better they stop the sale of such a vehicle rather than imposing fine. be it indian or imported bike.
yes police have a right to impose fine on bikers who have modified their bike's exhaust and it exceeds limits. but if they are so concious of laws why don't they fine people who keep on honking their horns for no reason. it is also nuisance, a much bigger one.
what about people who focus their headlights to aim at trees and not road, just so that they can trouble oncoming vehicles, and believe me 90 % of two wheelers aim for trees as if they are gonna take off next moment and visibility on road is not required at all.

I agree to this point in totality. Typically called a "varghoda" in gujarat, and undoubtedly starts after midnight. No a days it cannot be done without a "DJ" (glorified band baaja - can hardly be called a DJ) blaring music, bursting sutli bombs et al. Where are the cops now to curb this menace.Originally posted by julianpaul View Post3. What about all the festivals which are such a major part of our great indian 'culture'? They're all about noise. Bikes won't be making a fraction of the ruckus we hear ever so often, sometimes even after the deadline hours at night.

Update
A follow up on the Mirror article has appeared today on the 2nd page of the Mumbai edition of the Times of India. Worth having a read, fellow riders from the Harley group have responded!
princesirohi: What about cops themselves?? Have never seen a cop riding with a helmet on! Why not file a RTI against them for outrightly breaking the law in front of us!

The height of irony is that in mumbai, one of the noisiest, if not THE noisiest city in the world, the police think that SBKs and Harleys, which are ridden all over the world, are too noisy!
Check this out: Essential Hotels Blog The World’s Five Noisiest Cities
The mumbai police should take their decibel meters and their nakabandis and spend a few quality hours on mohammedali road instead of picking on bikes which contribute a fraction to the whole issue.

Per law there's a limit on the noise pollution; IIRC some 91db or so. So these bikers made loud noise, so they arrested, fine. In the South, esp in TN, during the month of Dec-Jan, every temple starts playing devotional songs in loud speakers that is sufficient to wake up people in & around 5 Sq Kms, that too in the morning as early as 5:00 AM. Does the Govt dare to touch these things?Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

If they are flagging down the Harleys and the SBKs then what about their own Bullets which make a buttload of noise? So much noise that you can't hear what the person next to you is saying. New age RE's with the better exhaust make far less noise but there are idiots who swap this exhaust with exhausts from older RE's just for the sound. What about those guys? Who will curb that noise?

well the problem really lies with the biker community, why does this attract so much attention because people with bikes generally on a open road in the city rev the nuts off their bikes, i mean no one likes to be woken up at 12 or 1 am by a biker on a joyride, you have to ride responsibly, plus if you ride sanely the cops rarely bother with you.Ajinkya

Sunday read
One more article came up today featuring Vijay Wheelie.
I fail to understand...if superbikes make so much noise what about fat cops riding their year old bullets which irk you no end and that too without helmets! What about it then? Whatever it is, this calls for some rather stern actions being taken and am willing to support it no matter what. This is insanity. Heres the article and link:

Btw, it's page 16 in the epaper.
On to the topic, you see supposedly passionate bikers here itself on xbhp justifying the police action because they're too naive to realize that it's all hogwash. The cops always have and always will target bikers because they simply easier to get money out of. If a person thinks that indian cops are out to uphold the law, then you need to open your eyes to reality. I'm sure everyone's been a victim of a pandu 'fine' at least once. Now if bikers themselves can't stick together and voice against the BS that's been going on for way too long, then how do you expect cops to leave such a lucrative business?
There is much of a community attitude around here, all i see is people spouting ATKT or whatever BS with such vigour like if you crash and die wearing knee sliders and back protectors, in addition to leathers, carbon fiber helmets and cock protectors, even YOU can get your 72 virgins when you reach heaven...
