- Market research is not complete and prototype is ready, whoa...wow
, company has not decided, what kind of product is to be launched and R&D is already done and prototype is ready. - last minute changes-- like ??? at last minute, i think only cosmetics can be changeda nd little bit more, nor that engine charater can be changed or CC or other significant stuff. or wait, hero moto can also change a on-off road bike to a sports bike or a street bike to a cruiser.... ok ok got it.
- btw, last minute changes means ...last minute has arrived ?? ready for launch??
- and if protoype is ready still they need 2 years to launch it??

Personally speaking I consider this news plausible. The reasons for doing so are:
1) It wont be first time that a company with its pants on fire would start developing a product even before doing proper market research, especially when it comes to automobiles. Hero is a champion of parts sharing and they could simply develop a base (like TATA nano) and then use it to spin various products out of it as per their market research(like TATA ace, magic, venture).
2) To have a prototype is no big of a deal. Many companies have put together an initial prototype and then have made radical changes to them over the extended testing periods. One of the best example is RE's cafe racer.
SPECULATION ALERT! : Can it be that Hero might hand over their potent and under exploited karizma to EBR for their underdog turned to super hero treatment? If so then many of my wet dreams might actually come true!
When in doubt...... Gas it!

that's exactly what hero should do if not a complete new product..Originally posted by cicatrix View PostPersonally speaking I consider this news plausible. The reasons for doing so are:

what makes you think that the rumoured 250 cc will be cheaper?are hero bikes cheaper?Originally posted by tanay View PostHoping for a cheaper CBR 250R types bike with similar power output...
what does time line depict here a mid life upgrade or re-engineered product?Originally posted by Above_All View PostHe then pointed there timeline as
2003 - Karizma
2006 - Karizma R
2009 - Karizma ZMR
very much unlikely.they will extract minimum power output from the engine, they will fit a punny tyre for mileage, the bike will be heavy as hero sucks at weight reduction, styling will be more on sticker based rather than curves, the chasis will be less rigid.but i will love to see hero making me gulp my words.Originally posted by akrathi9945 View PostFinally hero think about the 250....just wait and watch. it can compete with yamaha and honda...KTM tooo
and the question remains why do i race?

ZMR being their flagship bike, its logical they'll work on the same rather than bringing an all new product. I hope they give it a well deserved performance boost. I don't know how they'll rebore the 223cc engine to a 249!
But my wishlist is as follows:- (since EBR will look through the designing phases)
1. Redesign the fairing.
2. Do something for the headlamp shape (should be unique) and lighting.
3. Reduce some dry weight. (kerb weight)
4. Replace those skinny tires. I know, they are there on purpose, but at least fit in 120 section tires as stock. Do whatever has to be done in R&D.
Now, if AVL is able to put its hands on the engine (if allowed, as its a Honda),
the wishlist goes as:-
1. The engine is a gem, but increase in hp figures are highly desired. (~26 bhp at least...
)
2. Throw in a 6th gear please.
To Hero,
Price the bike at around 1.4 L OTR. You'll get back your customers.
To be continued......... [If only wishes came true]Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.
Because everyone who passes, isn't a martyr!

EBR is already rocking.. beating BMW S1000R etc in AMA pro racing.. so we can expect better technology as their bike is doing much better than K/KTM/BMW click hereLast edited by sridar1983; 06-03-2012, 12:35 AM.http://cbrfansclub.createaforum.com/...-engine-specs/

Hero isn't doing anything in performance segment bikes from so long & after a hike in petrol price, they'll concentrate even more or commuter segment bikes more then performance bikes..so i don't see any good performance bike coming from hero in anytime soon though they'll definitely make something by using EBR's technology but i don't see any product like that in near future..
would love to see Hero competing with competitors in performance segment as well..Suzuki Gixxer - Current

Hero bikes need to go on diet IMO
Hope EBR helps Hero to develop their engine and to design the frame as well!!! We need light and nimble bikes.weight affects every aspect of the bike like handling, braking, acceleration and topspeed! The only trade-off for lightness might be high-speed stability, but proper aerodynamics would help that

Maybe hero is using an imported engine to test chassis or other components like suspension. They will definitely use an EBR designed/optimised engine for their flagshop performance bike. The pic sridar uploaded has an engine which externally looks similar to the engine on this website.
1-cylinder Motorcycle Engine with 4V DOHC 4-stroke Engine and Coil Clutch, Engine (YG170MM) China Motorcycle engine supplier
So maybe they are considering all alternatives. It will be a real dream come true for many youngsters if they decide to tie up with megelli and launch the megelli 250r in india(With a re-engineered side-stand of course).

Also, they are said to be launching their first bike without Honda's internals by 2014:
First bike without Honda technology by 2014: Hero MotoCorp - The Economic Times
And since they said it again, there must be a reason or planning behind it. Yes, EBR and AVL are mentioned in the article.
NEW DELHI: Two-wheeler major Hero MotoCorp today said its first bike without the technology of erstwhile partner Honda will hit the market by 2014.
"We are working with different technology partners. Our first bike without Honda technology will be launched in 2014," Hero MotoCorp Managing Director and CEO Pawan Munjal told PTI.
The bike could be developed in India or anywhere but it would be on a completely new platform, he added. The company continues to use Honda technology for its products after the break up of their joint venture, Hero Honda. It has has a licence agreement with the Japanese firm till 2014.
In December 2010, the Hero Group and Honda had agreed to end their 26-year-old relationship with the Indian partner agreeing to buy out the latter's 26 per cent stake in Hero Honda for Rs 3,841.83 crore.
Since then the company has been stepping up partnership with other global firms. In February this year, the firm had entered into technology sourcing pact with US-based Erik Buell Racing (EBR) to strengthen presence in the high-end bike segment.
Munjal had then said the company has already started work on some of its existing products and also on completely new product using technology from EBR and a new product could be launched by calendar year 2013. The company had also entered into an alliance with Austria-based engine developer AVL to enhance capability in different engine segments.
"We have already started work with AVL and we are happy with the progress," Munjal said. He, however, added that it was difficult to put a timeline as to when a new bike with AVL engine technology could hit the market.
Asked if Hero MotoCorp plans to launch low cost bikes, he said: "We keep on working to push the cost down. I have never lost focus on reducing cost. You never know one day we may come up with a really low cost bike but that does not mean we are really working on it now."---
