  • 'Motorcyclists Matter' petition gets support

On the Roads all over the World, people driving cages(even trucks and buses) tend to ignore the Motorcycles and motorcyclists who share the road with them. this has led to many unwanted situations which sometimes are fatal too. sometimes motorcyclists are completely ignored to non-existence.
Even at night, I have observed cagers switching to low beam(which most of them do only when they get uncomfy by oncoming traffic's high beam, and not as a rule) for other cars but not to Bikes.
Recently had a crash because of this, riding gears saved my skin

Awareness for the motorcyclists using the road should be imparted during learning stage of driving and questions should be included in the tests conducted for DL, which maybe beneficial to us motorcyclists.

In UK, a petition is in Momentum which is urging the government to help increase awareness of motorcyclists by ensuring questions relating to bike users are made compulsory in the driving test.

If something like this is done for our Country, where over 5lakh road accidents happens annually and two-wheelers, which account for about 60% of country's total vehicular population, have emerged as the most vulnerable category, atleast some lives and many limbs will be saved.

me being a biker and a cyclist this is what i have noticed. cars /trucks dont give way for bikes, bikes dont give way for pedestrains/ cyclists. each and everyone feels they own the road.education is the way to go forward. but all this would`nt make sense until we have a strong judiciary and rules to punish drivers/riders.

very true.. i see these type of things daily on highway.

"you are a biker, WTF...you are just a two-wheelers and do i see you ..??absolutely not, even if you honk your horn/flash your light whatever...man you are a non existent entity to me.. you do not exist..simple as that, i will never give way to you...and i being the driver of a four wheeler, i own the road...so if you wanna live long or don't wanna loose a few limbs, get outta my way, bro, can't you see... i own the road, so i will drive in the center of road (ofcourse, if there is no divider) and also on wrong side (in twisties) even if i drive at 60 kmph still i have the right to drive in the right most lane."

sadly, THIS is the attitude of most 4 wheeler specially car drivers.

its prevalent everywhere and curbing this disease is not a piece of Cake
what irritates me is during Night when we have only 30% of visibility, no one cares to follow the basic rule of "Use Dipper At Night" which is clearly mentioned beside "OK TATA" behind many Trucks(pun intended but True).

I live in Kerala, the State having the highest number of road accidents in India. I invite you to come here and get a real time exp of the scene. the bigger the vehicle, the more speedy they are. I have seen trucks racing on public roads, bus drivers laughing at people when they scare away from their Buses. Forget about low beam, the nuisance increases during night. every car driver thinks his is the fastest. even alcohol consumption is the highest here(even though only Govt. operated liquor shops are selling alcohol unlike most other States where anyone can get a licence to sell), no wonder accidents happen.

yeah, with 1.3million they are thinking about it. our Govt. is busy with their own issues to think about motorcyclists.

I completely concur with the issue being talked of here.
However, how many here have faced tests of any kind (other than driving/ riding on the designed path) in the DL issue process?
I think, first the entire DL issue process has to be more meaningful and strict. Then we can talk of having specific questions and stuff within the tests.

Believe me Kerala Buses and Truckers are saints in comparison to what you will find in MP. I know because I have seen both.

Disagree mate. MP guys have just normal north indian aggressiveness. Kerala guys are stuntmen. Kerala wins hands down

But seriously if the Mods of xbhp are interested, we can easily formulate and make a petition, signed by hundreds of bikers from across the country. Infact the Grand Indian Roadtrip would have been an ideal platform for making this happen. We have ample human resources at our disposal in xbhp. I am sure their are some members who are capable of drafting a proper petition.

                    Hi Friends

I agree that there is a issue & we all contribute to this as general public.

How many of us using 2 wheelers use high beam?? Majority dont even think of cutting it to low beam when riding within the city during night...also majority dont respect the cyclist who is coming back from his work completely tired either with a small light or with the help of the other vehicle's lights

We need to correct ourselves & educate our own family members / friends to follow this, if each and every individual in this forum takes a oath that we will follow for such guidelines and speak to who ever possible then this can be slowly changed...trust me it would not happen overnight

I promise that I would not use high beam within the City & when on highway irrespective of the vehicle size & power of the light I would dim my light and slow down.

I have been following this for a longer time now and most of my friends / relatives have asked my when going by car that i care too much for 2 wheelers, have explained them on this and atleast few would have changed because of me.
Never Give up on something that you can't go a day without thinking about.

                    Cheers

+100. In some places getting a DL is nothing as no tests are required and bribing does the work.

If we start something now, we may get some results few years down the road.
                      True for the bold part.

kudos we should all implement this.

as a part of the DL test I remember learning the basic hand signs, road signs, etc and memorizing them for the Test and using them in front of the RTO. Assuming 80% of the people having a DL has learnt these, how many %age do we actually see using them after getting the DL?
for ex: I had to show hand signs in front of the RTO to take a turn, but in real life I use only the indicators.
Riding 50kmph at a 30 zone--how many of us(xBhp members) do it even though knowing it to be wrong(not blaming anyone)?

as for high beam, a few good souls lower their beams only when signaled by the oncoming traffic or if the high beam of others irritate them. I have seen very few to do this as a rule.
I have heard that in some Cities like Chandigarh, fine is levied on drivers for using high beam inside the city, hope this gets implemented everywhere and some mandatory rules should be made for Highways too esp on the undivided ones(though monitoring will not be possible).

A petition is the need of the hour to remind the Govt. of the outdated rules which they don't bother to revise.
