    Why 42 K ? Read below...

Bajaj April 2012 TW sales 342K Bajaj exported total 160K VEHICLES, so of 160K, 140K could be TW, making domestic sales 200K only

Honda has reported 198K just a difference of ~ 2K!!

Expect Honda to kick out Bajaj in domestic sales in next few months !!

Bajaj has no other option but to try some desperate methods like offering cheaper discovers !!

In few months Honda will be No.2 bike seller in India and Bajaj will be No.3 domestic seller.

Courtesy the current demand for automatic scooters and Honda's new plant which has reduced the waiting period for its scooters drastically and has contributed to its recent accelerated growth.

It is not happening 'slowly slowly'. It has already happened, back in March '12.

In March '12 HMSI Sold a total of 2,20,487 units in the domestic market.

By Comparison, BAL sold 3,00,848 MOTORCYCLES in total. Exact numbers are not provided but a total of 1,07,691 units (Motorcycles + Commercial vehicles) were exported. Even with conservative estimates, HMSI did better numbers than BAL in domestic sales of 2 wheelers. (YES!! YOUR DREAM HAS COME TRUE!!!)

BUT, the point to ponder is, what BAL sold were only Motorcycles. However, out of the HMSI no.s, only 82,353 (33%) were motorcycles. Rest 67% were scooters, a segment BAL doesn't operate in (Due to whatever be their reason). So it would be like saying that Maruti Suzuki sold more Hatchbacks than Mahindra and Mahindra

And anyways, the 42k Discover is not the only new BAL launch on the cards for the next few months. Check some posts above yours and you will see there are 2 more hot on the 42k Discover's heels which will definitely not be operating with "Cheap" as their USP.

P.S.: @Vipin_S Nice to see you back.

shouldn't we seperate scooter and motorcycle as two different markets rather than combined as two wheelers.

            they are two different segments.

It's a numbers game in domestic sales now. "In April, Bajaj Auto sales stood at 2,00,228 units and HMSI at 1,93,197 units". Source: Bajaj Auto manages to regain its number 2 position in April - The Economic Times

Makes sense as xBhp has always been about "Motorcycles". But then the total 2wheeler numbers do give an opportunity to show overall healthy numbers. For that matter the TVS numbers also includes Mopeds, Scooters and Motorcycles.

Come to think of it, it's not a valid excuse to defend Bajaj. How many scooters does Hero Moto sell? not many I guess, they just outsell the world with 100cc bikes

The following quote is a good reply to you. Honda had overtaken Bajaj in the sales of March 12 but Bajaj regained from Honda in April 12 Exciting.

Thanks @Payeng sir for the good news. Hope with the superb new Bajaj bikes and the Dream Yuga, Honda & Bajaj would be able to gain No. 1 & No.2 position from that lame company. It would be interesting to watch how their sales fall when new models of Bajaj & Honda come out

You are wishing for too much, it wouldn't happen anytime soon, simply because Splendor/Passion command incredible amount of loyalty among buyers. Certainly they will take hit in sales as people in urban areas are aware of Honda/Hero split and in all probability they would want to own a Honda.

                      Read on other website that new discover 100 4g is having a 4 gears...earlier discover 100 was having a 5 gears...so 4g means 4 gears or 4 generation?
