    Sales Reports: April 2012.

    ===================

    Bajaj Auto

MUMBAI: Bajaj Auto managed to regain its number two position in April and overtook Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, as the second largest two-wheeler maker behind Hero Motocorp.
In April, Bajaj Auto sales stood at 2,00,228 units and HMSI at 1,93,197 units
In March 2012, HMSI for the first time overtook Bajaj Auto as the second-largest player in the country's two-wheeler market. In March, Bajaj Auto recorded sales of 210383 units and HMSI posted sales of 212812 units.
"We will continue with our focused approach as a motorcycle specialist. This is what has enabled us to become the second largest bike maker in India and the third largest in the world, said K Srinivas, president -motorcycle business.
While we are indifferent to the sale of scooters and mopeds of other manufacturers, we would like to place on record that for the month of April we are the second largest 2-wheeler manufacturer in India and have a significant lead over the third largest manufacturer. With a number of new launches planned in the coming months we are confident of outpacing industry growth in 2012-13. Mr Srinivas said.

The company had sold 5,17,099 units during the same month last year, Hero MotoCorp said in a statement.
The company said its last month sales have surpassed previous highest monthly sales of 5,49,625 units in September 2011.
"It is indeed heartening to begin the new financial year with our best-ever monthly sales. We have made a good beginning with this strong performance and are pleased with the continuing trend of over half a million unit sales every month for the past nine months," Hero MotoCorp Senior Vice-President (Marketing and Sales) Anil Dua said.

    India Yamaha

Two-wheeler maker India Yamaha Motor today reported 6 per cent increase in total sales at 36,581 units for April, 2012.
The company had sold 34,476 units in April last year, India Yamaha Motor said in a statement.
In the domestic market, the company's sales stood at 26,944 units, as against 25,817 units in the same month last year, up 4.4 per cent.
Exports of India Yamaha stood at 9,637 units from 8,659 units in the year-ago period, it added.
"We had entered the financial year on a high note and hope to sustain it throughout the year. Our models - YZF-R15 Version 2.0, FZ series and SZ series are doing very well in their respective segments and are playing an instrumental role in driving the sales for our company," India Yamaha Motor CEO and MD Hiroyuki Suzuki said.
The company recently introduced new variants of the FZ series in order to add freshness to the product and kept in line with its promise to give new to its customers, he added.

Well guys, Yamaha got some new paint schemes for their FZ's, Hero MotoCorp hiked their prices by Rs. 1000, Bajaj managed to retain its No. 2 spot from Honda and TVS somehow showed some figures, and is expected to show slightly more after their 2012 Apache RTR starts selling more. (Yes, I know the new RTR's looks aren't exactly to majority's taste, but it will help nonetheless).

Some members were saying that Honda's sales over Bajaj, are due to dealership stock piling. Still the difference is not that much and Honda is quite ambitious.
They have set a target of being No. 1 that too in many years, so its possible. But the problem is that just like many other countries, not all Indians really fall flat for Honda's designs and appeal, although technology-wise they're up there with the best.

it will be a real tough fight for BAL ...for no.-2 spot in coming years, specially because they dont have anything in scooter portfolio and honda has everything from scooters to 100 cc to right up to 250 cc.
i seriously think that bajaj should also look into scooters if they want to retain no.-2 position for long. it is really difficult when you are competing in only half of the segment.

btw, who is world no.-2 bike manufacturer? since bajaj is no.-3 .??

            HMC. First is Honda.

Bajaj doesnt need scooters, its need a good portfolio of 100cc bikes like Hero, they have like 4bikes in 100cc right? Customer is spoilt for choices ! Mind you the market dwindles as cc increases. Ofcouse, Bajaj is focused on making more money per bike.
