    MUMBAI: Chennai based TVS Motor Company has announced upcoming Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma as the brand ambassador for its TVS Scooty range.

    Joining its rivals Hero MotoCorp and Mahindra Two Wheelers, who also have a Bollywood celebrity as their brand ambassador promoting their scooters, TVS Motor says the appointment of the actress is aimed to strengthening its brand commitment towards the youth.



    H S Goindi, president marketing, TVS Motor Company said, "Anushka Sharma was an immediate choice for the TVS Scooty brand. She is well known for being spunky with her distinctive style and is an icon for young girls in India. She is seen by young women as one who is living her goals of being vivacious, independent and successful. We are confident that this association will further enhance the popular TVS Scooty Brand. "

    India 's largest two wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp has Priyanka Chopra as their brand ambassador and Kareena Kapoor endorses for Mahindra Two Wheelers.

    Anushka's association with TVS dates back to 2005 when she had done a campaign for the brand.

    "It's almost like 'homecoming' for me. As a young woman I know how important independence and mobility is to me. TVS Scooty has always understood young women of India and it feels great that I now have an opportunity to be a part of the rich legacy of a brand such as TVS Scooty,"" Anushka said.

    The company had roped in emerging cricket star Virat Kohli as their brand ambassador for TVS Sport motorcycles in 2011.

    A bit too much extra money for the advertisements and ambassadorship, huh TVS? How about using the same money for creating better products and launching them, so that the print media advertises for you, for no extra cost?

    Copying a Hero doesn't make you a Hero. Pun definitely intended and no more comments.

            I personally don't like brand ambassadors. I don't think they use most of the products they advertise themselves. They just add to the cost of the product. If the consumer gets aware, then no company would ever require a brand ambassador.

            You know what Suzuki managers said when they launched the Hayabusa? They said that, the Hayabusa by itself is our brand ambassador, our face.


            BTW I once heard that Sachin Tendulkar didn't know how to ride bikes when he advertised for TVS Victor. Can anybody confirm this rumor?

              Agree....I also dont like Brand ambassadors for any product, specially for bikes....
              They never use that product for they advertise themselves, Its just game of money....

                Brand ambassadors are an integral part of marketing. Its just association, say your friend gets a CBR and says good things about it, you tend to like CBR. Same way.

                And TVS did not copy anything lol they had Sania, Trisha or someone else as brand ambassador before. Its a general marketing concept, nobody copied lol

                      And yet the Honda Activa is the undisputed automatic scooter king in India that too by a large margin. Funny HMSI has roped in Akshay Kumar though to promote its "Dream Yuga ()".

                        Well recognized/established brands/products don't need brand ambassadors to push the sales. Pulsar is a shining example of that. Incidentally, Pulsar never used a celebrity even when it started out in the market. But, a celebrity brand ambassador would certainly help in grabbing eye balls/attention when someone is trying to make a mark in the market.

                          As for the brand ambassadors, they dont add to product value but they do help them make a mark, influence buyers (which isn't easy considering the awareness and easy information access everywhere)

                          P.S. almost 8 years back I had to choose between freedom and victor glx, I chose victorglx, Sachin had a big role to play in the choice.

                            That's obvious, isn't it?

                            My mention of Honda roping in Akshay to endorse the Yuga was to point out that unlike the Activa that doesn't need any celebrity, Honda is banking on Akshay to make people look at the Yuga. Honda seems to be in a hurry with the Yuga.
