  • Piaggio Fly125 to hit the Indian market by Diwali

Piaggio had re-entered scooter market in the country with the premium Vespa LX125 recently. The Vespa life style scooter has been highly priced and now, to draw sales volumes, the company is planning to launch another scooter- Fly 125cc, say reports.

The company hopes the Fly 125cc to give it an upper hand in the segment by taking on the likes of best selling scooters- Honda Activa, Suzuki Access and Swish. The scooter which is already on sale in other markets is expected to be launched in India in the next couple of months, say reports.

The Fly 125cc will be powered by the same engine fitted on the Vespa. Fuel economy will be the strongest point of the engine which produces around 10 BHP of peak power and 10 Nm of peak torque.

The Piaggio Fly 125 gets telescopic forks at the front and hydraulic shock absorbers with pre-load adjuster at the rear. The scooter features drum brakes with front disk brake available as an option. There is no other information available as of now. The scooter is expected to be priced around Rs.50,000, say reports.

      its a good thing.
but the progress of vespa is rather too slow.
just today i saw a vespa scooter in pune. the first i saw in pune. it was a white colored one and was looking quite small compared to others like activa and all. the owner was very reluctant to ride on muddy patches on road lest his white beuty may get spoiled. it was rather funny he was riding so carefully ... staying clear of traffic, bad roads, potholes....
it was cute but a bit small.

Since they are little bit pricy they wont sell like Honda scooters I think. And i am seeing 2-3 of them in pune during my commute

It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch

a little bit of OT: yesterday when sevicing my bike, on the adjacent bay an LML Vespa was being repaired, one mechanic commented-"now a days scooters are so rare" when suddenly my mechanic replied - "boss, its not a scooter, its a VESPA". i was so delighted to hear that, even some mechanics are aware of vespa's heritage.

Vespa is kinda hit in Kerala. Lots and lots of them. Overpriced and underequipped. Price similar to the ones sold outside India, but we get ugly alloy look alike crappy rims, cheapest 3.5-10 wheels. no FI, just the price. Please please Piaggio, don't ruin this one.

With LX125 costing almost an FZ, this one will cost as much as a 200 NS

Hyderabad is flooded with Vespas. I see them all the time, especially the Giallo Lime Color. The Vespa brand is not for everyone, its for the true scooter enthusiasts who appreciate the timeless design. Yes its overpriced and looks a bit small, but thats not going to stop Vespa followers from buying them.
