The company had sold 5,03,654 units in August, 2011, Hero MotoCorp said in a statement.
Commenting on its numbers, Hero MotoCorp Senior Vice- President (Marketing and Sales) Anil Dua said: "The dispatch numbers of August reflect the market sentiment.
The two-wheeler industry in the country has been facing a challenging time due to the overall macro-economic situation which has adversely affected retail sales, both in the urban and the rural markets".
3) HMSI -> +39%
The company's total sales stood at 1,60,666 units in the corresponding month of last year.
Motorcycle sales jumped by 69.44 per cent to 1,04,316 units in August this year as against 61,562 units in the same month last year, HMSI said in a statement.
The company reported an increase of 19.52 per cent in its scooter sales to 1,18,452 units from 99,104 units in August 2011, it added.
Sales of two—wheelers plunged to 1,50,740 units in August 2012 as against 1,90,184 units recorded in the same period of last year, the company said in a statement.
The company had sold 3,907 units of three—wheelers in August 2012 as against 4,714 units in the corresponding period of previous year.
The company’s domestic sales witnessed a drop to 1,35,513 units in August 2012 compared with 1,63,705 units in August 2011.
Sales of motorcycles dipped to 53,673 units in August 2012 from 77,726 units sold in the same period of last year.
Scooters sales also slumped to 38,193 units in August 2012 as against 52,253 units in the same month of previous year.
On exports front, the company witnessed a 40.1 per cent slump on its sales at 17,934 units in August 2012 as against 29,984 units in the same month of last year.
Exports of motorcycle declined by 42.4 per cent at 15,227 units in the month under review as against 26,479 units in August, 2011.
Suzuki Motorcycle sold 36,524 units in August 2012 as opposed to 26,900 units in August 2011, recording a strong growth in its overall sales. Suzuki Motorcycles has maintained a consistent growth path over the last couple of years.
Commenting on this strong growth pattern, Suzuki Motorcycle India vice president sales & marketing Atul Gupta said: "We have received a good response from the market for all our products. The growing customer satisfaction has led to positive word-of-mouth in the market. We will continue to give the best to our customers."
