  • Suzuki unveils 2013 Hayabusa - now with ABS

Hey guys! Suzuki has unveiled the 2013 edition of the Hayabusa at the INTERMOT 2012 in Cologne, Germany. It now comes with Anti-lock Brakes (ABS) and Brembo Monoblock calipers (akin to the 1199 Panigale). The bike now comes in two new shades, white/grey and black/grey.

With the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector and the addition of ABS, I feel the big 'Busa has been made more novice-friendly. This should influence the decision of more people who want a fast and relatively safe superbike. What do you think??

Here is the official video from Suzuki:

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

It's only "novice-friendly" if the novice rider disciplines themselves enough to ride the bike in "rain" mode long enough to develop the appropriate self-preservation skills. This is still a bike that makes more than 170hp, and even in the most restricted mode will still out-accelerate and outrun 90% of the bikes out there. Also, all ABS does is help to keep the wheels from locking up; it can't do anything about teaching appropriate braking skills or helping with applying the brakes with enough room to stop safely. On a wet road, the stopping distance can increase noticeably over that of a non-ABS bike.

I'd rather that novices *not* consider this bike, as the drive mode and ABS might only give false confidence. Far too many inexperienced riders go out and buy more bike than they can handle, because they overestimate their skills, underestimate the power of the bike, and overestimate the degree to which technology like ABS and engine mode can "soften" the bike. The end result is they ride beyond their skill level and end up killing themselves.

For those who've really got more money than brains, I strongly suggest buying either a Harley or the big Suzuki Intruder. You don't want to end up looking like the kid on the Ducati from "Ocean's Eleven".

Firstly, yes, the ABS and Rider modes definitely will make it safer than earlier. Still, I personally would not want to own a Hayabusa for myself, even given the cash and all.

I understand all those people who stress that in the right hands, its a safe machine. They're all right in a way. But, in the right hands, it will not weigh lesser than 150 kgs magically. In the right hands, it won't make under 50 bhp with soft power delivery. In the right hands, it won't be as flickable as the R6 or Ninja 250R is.

I don't want to raise Xbhp's 2 most tearful memories related to Hayabusa, just to prove my point, so I'll rest my case here itself. The machine is not at fault, nor is the biker, its just they both are at the wrong kind of roads & environment.
We Indians are much better on a 600 with similar level of technology. Or at best, a 1000. We need any extra flick-ability that is reasonably possible.
Yes, I know I haven't ridden an Sbk, but it doesn't take a ride to understand physics.

Too bad they're flogging the same old horse. Was hoping to see something all new this year. I guess the tsunami really hit them hard.

The drive selector is a nice tech which helps you ease into the bikes. But on a Busa it isn't much helpful to a novice, as it dials down the power to ~900cc that still is a lot. Coupled to the fact that you need to remember each time to make this selection when you start the bike is trouble. The one time you would forget to make the selection and twist that throttle, probably wont end well.

Also with a behemoth like the Busa, I am sure there will be trouble riding it in slow speeds, this is where most ppl drop their bikes.

Am a first time SBK'er and busa is my first bike all i can say is

BIKES DON'T KILL RiDERS, they have the pleasure of doing it themselves - i do agree on "overestimate their skills, underestimate the power of the bike" but its not like a R6 or Blade or Ducati is any slowerthey too hit 3 digit numbers the only diffrence is the BUSA does it in 8.9 second to hit
