  • HONDA plans made-in-India product to challenge Hero

Japanese auto major Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), which has invested close to Rs 150 crore to make operational and integrated technical centre at its Manesar facility, will roll out its first indigenously developed product over the next two to three years.

Keita Muramatsu, president and chief executive officer, HMSI, said, “We will develop a new product from the scratch for the Indian market at our technical centre in Manesar. This should happen over the next two to three years.”

The decision highlights the growing importance of India in Honda’s global two-wheeler operations after the termination of the joint venture of Hero Honda with the Munjals’ promoted Hero Group early last year.

        Both are from Thailand!
The limiter kicks in @11,500 rpm just within a second after the first shift..And, that's where the fun begins !! ;)

not sure about the 150, but the 250 is also made in India (as well as thailand etc..)
but what this news posted above is about them investing and building up a bike from scratch in india.. since their other bikes are all adaptations of international models.

Not the entire bike is from Thailand. The engine is sure from Thailand. I don't know abt the other parts which are imported. Only Mr.Muramatsu could answer this question.

I don't care about the prices as there is excellent quality. And Honda are known for their quality.

I don't think they actually need to do that though. They have done enough R&D and launched enough products either made in or made for markets like Brazil, Africa, China, etc and these pretty much cover all segments they can possibly cover and wouldn't waste money on more development. This announcement sounds more like a PR exercise. I presume they'll simply launch few more bikes attacking hero that are assembled here, possibly their ultra-cheap 125cc Honda Ace that's eating up African markets right now.

So CBR 150/250 is being imported. What about Honda's other model like Shine, Dream yuga, etc. Those are also from some other country or made in India.

And because of these import CBR 150cc price is higher than Yamha 150cc R15 which is Indian made I guess. Just guessed it because the company tag is Yamaha motor India Pvt Ltd.

"for Indian market" "to challenge Hero" directly means Honda will launch a commuter segment bike after doing R&D on its existing products or as they said from scratch itself..no performance bike I am sensing & that's boring..

It would be great if they re-vamp the current dazzler 150 and make it a lil more sportier and put it right against the fz it can gain a major youth centered market share from the 150cc segment(Hero has 3-4 bikes with same heart n this segment!)

And please change that name to cb150r / hornet or wateva..!

Very well said!!! This is 1 particular Category in Which Honda is lagging behind the competition.. I agree the Cb unicorn is doing ok in traditional 150cc bike space...but CBZ,Hunk & FZ are beating Honda badly in this segment..Honda needs to replace dazzler with something more attractive ..

to Be Specific...Only Honda Unicorn & Yammy FZ series is rulling the market as of now! If still some1 is left they are buying Apache & Hero CBZ! Hunk and Dazzler are almost dead now! Bajaj are selling more P-NS & P180 than their hot selling P150 and P220 now!
Now its the right time for yamaha to refresh their Grande Fz series to hold back the market again for nest 2-3 years.
Honda Badly requires Re-Freshed (aka Hero CBZ) Unicorn sbilling's else soon they will be de-throwned from 150cc segment.
Pulsar have some goodwill in Indian market and will retain its Numbers (My View).
Tvs has done some decent modification on thier Apache.
                        My view...not to hurt anyone!
