The CenVAT is reduced from 12% to 8%, so there is a flat 4% reduction. The companies should give 4% off straightaway, rather than rounding the figures, beause anyways it was not paid by them (the cost was born from the consumer). So Unicorn costing 59000 ex showroom should now cost 59000 x 0.96 = 56640, thus the resulting discount should be 2360.
Yamaha R15 should be even more discounted, atleast by Rs.4000. as it costs above 1 Lakh ex showroom.
And 2000-2500 reduction in cost is not less, you can get a decent helmet and/or gloves pair, and if someone is abroad, then even a nice mesh jacket in $50 range if you find hard enough. This is a good news for bikers.

^ It doesn't work that way. CenVAT reduction does not apply in the final selling cost of the vehicle. CenVAT reduction only brings down the cost of raw materials taken into account while costing the product. How much that is, is only known to each manufacturer.Originally posted by animeher View PostThe CenVAT is reduced from 12% to 8%, so there is a flat 4% reduction. Suspiciously I find TVS missing in the companies that have announced the price cut and I just booked a TVS vehicle yesterday!! Damn. Will have to haggle with my dealer.
@Rossiter: If the cenvat is on raw materials, then the cost saved by the manufacturer should be a lot higher once it is reduced, right ? Am not sure, but just have a query.Democracy is when 2 wolves and a sheep meet to decide who is for dinner. Liberty is when the sheep has a gun.

@Apar: Cenvat is on all purchases made by a company. So yeah there will be a reduction in what the raw materials are costing them when there is a cut in rates like this. Like I said, how much that reduction is depends on many things, like what prices they have negotiated with their vendors etc.
In the end, they will decide on whether to pass on the whole savings to the customer or partly. That is left to the individual company

@topic
I beleive this news is more or less useless for us other than the ppl who are going to buy one!
@rossi
If the cenvat tax deduction (4%) is levied only on the input cost/raw materials.....then i beleive 2-4k price slash is way too much is'nt it?07 HH Zma
