  • What is KTM upto??

Not Sure how much of it is true

Austrian heavy weights KTM have churned out some of the most radical sets of two wheels like the RC8 and the Duke series etc. Here's the low down regarding a 250cc offering from KTM, the first thing which strikes a mind is 'pocket rocket'. Well many bikers will argue to my saying that “it has every right to be an enthusiast's dream bike” even thought it's just a mere kid if compared with its 1000cc KTM big brothers.

This 'KTM Moto3 Racer' based production motorcycle churns out a mere 49PS from its 250cc mill, might not sound so appealing but my thoughts are a bit different regarding the GPR. For starters the looks of this pocket rocket simply put is stunning, embodied with amazing lines and killer curves. The fun element on this bike kicks in when its on the track, it's far from being some motocross engine shoehorned into a steel trellis frame. The KTM 250GPR is just a small step down from Sandro Cortese’s world championship winning Moto 3 machine.

KTM has begun accepting orders for a production racer version of its 250cc Moto3 World Championship race bike. The production racer will be available in February 2013 though orders will be accepted from July 1 to Oct.1 of 2012 for 45,000 euros (US$55,400).The 2013 KTM Moto3 250 GPR offers similar specifications to the Moto3 bike including the one ridden by current series leader Sandro Cortese.

    Topic Approved.

Its true news. But with a price tag much more than some litre class bikes itself, this bike is explainably costly. Collector's edition kind of. But I wish I could ride it once. 90 kgs with 48 bhp. How can this bike not be fun?? Amazing engineering.

But its a race bike after all. Ridden soft handedly, it won't give enough torque. Ridden hard, you'll have to get engine rebuilds done more often.

^^ Yes! Thats a Race Replica babay! Remember the Ducati Desmosedici RR, these things are fast, merciless and costs a bomb to buy and maintain.

          Yes and No.

          1. It will be sold, based on the limited number of orders made between July 1 to October 1, 2012, so the ordering time is over now.

          2. It can't be used on roads. It is NOT Road Legal. Check the 100 db+ Akrapovics on it. Similarly, no registration plates anywhere. In other words, owners are supposed to buy it, carry it to the racetrack in a lorry/ truck/ carriage, and then ride it on the track.

          3. These units will be given with a 13,500 rpm limit. That should enhance the life of the engine but it also means that these units will be slightly detuned, so they'll make 49 PS instead of the 50~55 PS of the original GP Racer.

KTM seems hellbent on bringing the 2 stroke feeling back, albeit on the 4 strokes. And no, we don't have any problem with it.

Probably KTM wants to capture a pie of 250 too where Honda NSF 250R is already present & providing a VFM (Damn Japs)

this sounds more like a production racer to recover costs of moto3 investing.

to be sold to racers who dont participate in moto3

I wonder what Mahindra are doing with their moto gp bike. I wish something nice comes out from their stable.
