    LML showcased its range of gorgeous retro-modern scooters including its first automatic scooter, Star 125cc 4T Automatica, at EICMA 2012 in Milan


    LML may have shut shop in India but, their scooters have been creating quite a splash in international markets. At the ongoing 2012 EICMA motorshow in Milan, the company showcased their range of scooters, the LML Star Light along with the newly introduced Star 125cc 4T Automatica. The cute, bright coloured, retro-inspired scooters from LML were hard to miss despite the presence of big, brute machines from Ducati, Aprillia, etc at the show. The Star Light range has engine options ranging from 50cc to 125cc in the 2-stroke segment and from 125cc to 200cc in the 4-stroke segment. All scooters are equipped with a 4-speed manual gearbox. However, the Star 125cc 4T Automatica, as the name suggests, is powered by a 4-stroke, 125cc engine mated to a variator (automatic) transmission. Sadly, LML is unlikely to field this range of super cool, beautiful scooters in India.



    The Star 125cc 4T Automatica is LML’s first attempt in the automatic scooter segment. The styling of the scooter is very retro and in tune with its vintage-styled Star Deluxe range of scooters. The 4T Automatica is powered by a 4-stroke, 125cc engine producing 6.8PS of power at 8000rpm and employs a Variator transmission, which was developed and provided by Adler.


    To reduce the weight of the scooter, the frame is made of welded steel pipes which are integrated into the sheet metal body. The weight reduction has enabled the LML to be more maneuverable and agile. A noticeable change is that the rear brake is no longer operated by pedal on the footrest. Instead, it’s done via a brake lever on the left handle like in conventional automatic scooters. To improve the practicality of the Star Automatica, the fuel capacity has been increased to 7 litres, and the company claims a fuel efficiency figure of 46 kmpl. The scooter has been unveiled in four variants: Classic, Glamour, Vintage and Prestige. Also, a variety of colour combinations will be provided with the option of customisation. The Star 125cc 4T will be available at a special price of €2,250 (Rs 1.57 lakh) when it launches in December 2012.





    The Star 4S has three different 4-stroke engines (125cc, 151cc and 200cc) in its range. The 125cc version produces 5.8PS; 151cc produces 8.6PS and the top variant 200cc engines pumps out 8.6PS. The design of the scooter is a mix of retro-modern styling in bright colours. The Star 4S range of scooter employs an electro-welded steel tube structure, which increases the rigidity seven times compared to a classic single-body frame and improves the stability of the scooter. The efficiency figures for the 125cc and 151cc is 60 kmpl whereas the top variant 200cc claims to deliver 50kmpl. With the use of disc brakes in front, the Star 4S has managed a 50 per cent reduction in stopping distance. Prices start from €2390 (Rs 1.67 lakh) for the 200cc version, from €2000 (Rs 1.4 lakh) for the 125cc version and from €2150 (Rs 1.5 lakh) for the 151cc version.


    The range, as the name suggests, comprises scooters powered by 2-stroke technology. The two scooters available in this segment are powered by 125cc and 150cc engines respectively and employ manual transmission. To add sturdiness to the 2T range, the frame is made of hardened steel while weight reduction is achieved by the use of lightweight single shell structure. The scooter gives an overall efficiency of 35kmpl (company claimed) while disc brake is standard for improved safety. Prices for the Star 2T range start from €1900 (Rs 1.33 lakh).

      when i heard this news, or rather read it here, i was curious and at the same time doubtful that how can it be true.

      because what i knew and what most of you guys may also know, all we know was that vespa (Piaggio) is the original company and when they launched their scooters in india, they did it in collaboration with LML, and thats how LML Vespa was born. it did business in india and then ceased to exist.

      so, how can they suddenly come up with an entire range of scooters, suddenly in a far away land.

      so i did some googling, and found out that LML was not dead all these years, it was doing something out of india too...interesting.

        LML being headquartered in Italy is bizarre to say the least. When the real monty from Piaggio is there in Italy what is LML doing there and who will buy an LML scooter over Piaggo's Vespa branded scooter. I know that LML is selling its 2 stroke and 4 stroke scooters in parts of northern India where there is still a demand for geared scooters. Last year LML said that they will soon go national but no such thing has happened so far and anyway I doubt if they can really compete with Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and now Piaggio itself. I have seen LML ads in Zigwheels though, and there is no mention of any dealers anywhere. Which is again strange.

            I used to see these scooters being tested everyday when I used to go cycling on the highway every morning. Never gave them much thought as I was too busy pedalling and scooters don't interest me all that much. But they did look good in the flesh and would be pelting it past me at around 80 kmph without any problem.
            Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!
