The faulty part is the bolt of the side stand. The company said that the bolts may loosen due to a manufacturing flaw and the stand may separate from the motorcycle frame.

While the damage due to a broken side stand may not be too serious, it is sure to hurt the ego of the owner to see his expensive top of the line super sport bike crash. That too stationary!

The BMW S1000RR has seen recalls in the past as well for engine flaws.

But isnt it good that they recall and rectify it rather than just leaving it unattended? Its not like all the bikes were perfect before and the manufacturers didnt have the need to recall bikes. Its a very good practice and hope all the manufacturers start doing it whenever necessary.

Bold on the part of BMW to call back so many bikes just for a faulty side stand, they knew it would surely affect their image but they decided that the present customer base is much more valuable. If I were an owner of such a bike and would be recalled to fix a faulty side stand I would be proud that such small things are also being taken care of by the company and that the smallest of details are getting so much attention.
I would rather be riding my bike thinking of God, than sitting in the temple thinking of my bike.

had it been an indian company they wudn't have bothered about the side stand.

its BMW.. they want everything to be good and dont wanna leave any stone unturned even for a small part like a bolt of the stand.
they are paying attention to even the smallest of the thing and definitely a good thing

That shows the commitment of the company to its customers. We all know that nothing is perfect, but to get it recalled for replacing it with better ones is a good thing as it will help to keep the customers satisfied.

By Indian you mean patriotic Indian or the japanese makers aswell like Honda/Yamaha? because i can remember Honda replacing all the grab rails and mirror plugs due to complaint of poor paint finish and loosening of the bolts on the mirror

Btw this is BMW's second recall of 2012.. BMW issued a recall for bikes built between Sept. 1, 2011, through April 10, 2012 to address an issue with bolts that secure the connecting rods to the crankshaft that could loosen when the bike is driven at high speed
