Hero's Labour woes continue. As talks fail yet again.
Workers feel the company is being too rigid and not appreciating the protest and demands of them.
Labour Unions are planning to escalate their level of protests to pressurize the management.
An armoured anti-riot police vehicle had been called as a precaution, since the situation had become very tense.

HMC's workers are asking for their salaries to be doubled. Currently an experienced worker earns around 50000 CTC. Their are demanding 1 lakh per month. Along with this their want 10 lakh interest free loans. The management is not willing to give in to these demands as it will adversely effect the wage market in the entire auto and auto component industry. The demand is to increase the wages by 45000 in three years. If such demand is met by HMC management then HMC workers will be the highest paid.
But these are normally bargaining tools which Labour Unions do not expect to be met.

Yeah They gotta go on hunger strike. That 50K per month salary must have put thick layer of fat on their bellies. No better way to shave it off then going on a hunger strike. Workers will become healthy enough to do more work for more salary. More production throughput means Win-Win for both Company, workers and customers. They should do this more often.

On a different note, In Pune it has been found through rigorous search done with Bajaj and Tata workers during their hunger strike, that in some miraculous way workers indeed put on weights instead of losing it. Entire western scientist society was baffled by that.

HMC workers say that going on a strike will be there last resort. But they will do it if necessary. The workers were joined in their protest by workers from Maruti, Honda and others.

The Gurgaon Manesar belt is under more pressure with Hero workers now talking about a partial strike beginning this monday and even a full-blown strike if demands are not met. What is worrying is that Suzuki Motorcycles also recently had labour problems and Maruti had tremendous problems with unions last year.
This not just threatens the existence of Hero in this region but also of new entrants. Companies are slowly but surely shifting out their business to other states, especially to Gujarat. A closure of auto-sector plants will adversely hit the livelihood of the people living in this region. This is not good for companies, the workers or the government. In the long run, the workers will suffer the most as it is their livelihood which will be effected. The government should step in to put things on track before it goes out of hand. Too many other cities of the country have seen entire thriving industries collapse due to labour-management problems.
This will also reflect badly on India at the global level, as the country is trying to project itself as a motorcycle manufacturing destination, overtaking neighbouring China.
