  • Labour trouble brewing in for Suzuki Motorcycles?

Two workers of Suzuki Motorcycles have been suspended due to altercation with Supervisor.

The labour troubles of Hero Motocorp is ongoing and another motorcycle company has been hit with labour unrest. Two workers were suspended by Suzuki Motorcycles at their plant in the Gurgaon-Manesar belt because of an altercation with a factory supervisor. One of the two suspended workers is a Union Office bearer.

Suzuki Motorcycle India Employees' Union (SMIEU)has written to the Labour Department of Haryana and a meeting is expected on February 22.

    An SMIEU office bearer -

"A worker (Pradeep) in the weld shop had complained about defects on bike frames to his superior (manager) on February 12. After that the supervisor in charge of the frames came to the worker asking why he is complaining to others, and a fight ensued. The union member also came in support of the same worker, following which the company issued suspension letters to both the worker and the union member on the same day,"
If true then this is serious business as defects are not being looked into. Suzuki claims that the incident hasn't effected production and the problem is being resolved with an enquiry.

The Gurgaon-Manesar belt is becoming notoriously infamous for labour disputes, with Maruti and Hero being the worst effected, while others have also had minor problems.

Companies are shifting out of this belt, if unions don't leave politics aside they will loose big time

This is not going to do any good to the already notorious Trade unions and the kind of reputation that they have. I hope the issues are resolved in a reasonable and amicable way rather than enforcing ones whims and wishes on the other. We as a country have to go a long way to build a very open and professional environment.
