a 500 parallel twin making a healthy 40-50 bhp cannot be anything beyond a tourer giving decent torque.. it certainly cannot be a sports/super sports or anything as a 100 cc more inline 4 makes 3 times the power people here might call them sports bike but the fact lies when the same motorcycle is sold in international market they are nothing but learner's bike... for them a 600cc inline 4 making 100hp is considered a sports bike... again the thought process works as per the market availability of the product and the options available..

it was specifically made for the asian markerts where people need looks and power but still look forward for better mpg.. so here is the answer
a 250r cannot be called a sports either for a good sports bike of 250 even with a single cylinder honda could have tweaked it to cross 30+ hp
however it would have guzzled a lot more fuel and would lack the low end torque for city use and relaxed touring

I will try when I go there next time. The F is the best of them all.

making a 500 cc relaxed engine of 40-50 horses as big as a 600RR will make it heavier and non exciting... 600r rmakes 120hp.
above that they need to justify the price tag diffrence between a 500r and 600rr. if they both look similar they will face criticizm
for making a base level tourer similar to a super sports cant disappoint the bigger guys..

it might be similar to a 250 but please realize if the company can fit in a bigger engine with the small chassis eventually we are
getting benefitted by getting a lighter and quicker motorcycle..

out of the 3 rides.. my bet is the 500x... its like niceeeee...
But to the people upgrading from smaller bikes, they should feel like they bought something substantial.

Yes almost the same as CBR 250R. My legs were quite away from the slim tank. Didn't touch the tank.

All in all it[500R] will be a disappointment for those seeking a big sportsbike feel. Street is the best and tourer after it. The best proposition is the streetbike. 500/400 cc bike for city riding. I imagine great fun in the city!

I am hooked on! The 500R will most likely be my next upgrade (if it comes to India, that is!)

Hondas are pioneers in two wheeler industry. Would be great if they come in with their 500 cbr x f and r series....infact the 400s launched for japan as in the news ....theyre good for indian conditions too. Adequate power on wheels would do great. Im eyeing for the CB400/500X ultimate on off roader. Ideal displacement wise not too high neither too short on cc. Adventure would be fun on it.
              Hopefully will come India soon.

I wish it to come to our shores. It can be a competitor for duke 390 and kwacker 300. Please bring it in Honda.

^^ link is not working.if we go by the logic of motoroids.com, it can be priced around 3 lakhs OTR in india, if produced or assembled in india. but this seems extremely difficult based on the kind of volumes CBR250 is doing, unless and untill india is choosen as an exporting hub.if it is launched in competition to Ninja300, it should be priced in region of 3-3.5 lakhs OTR.and if honda thinks that being a 400 CC bike it is superior to Ninja300 and prices it above or at par with Ninja300, it would kill the product. but this is unlikely to happen, only if they are imported to india.but in no case it can be priced at par with Duke390... which has killer pricing.

Getting more excited..!!! Just came across this:

KTM Duke 390 vs Honda CBR400R

If Cbr 500 takes 5 sec to reach a ton with 500 cc and 47 bhp, I assume cbr 400 can reach there in 6 secs in spite of the weight difference between both. Plus the difference in tank capacity infers that cbr will be a good tourer. I hope it reach our shores soon. Fingers crossed.

the article talks about two other 400's being launched this year, one i guess is P375, which one is other 400...??

i guess both will be doing 0-100 in under 6 secs.

                          expected price/release date..??

dont think the cbr400 might match duke on acceleration.its a detuned version of cbr500.has less torque(37nm vs 43) but same weight as the 500(194 with fluids).obviously will have better top speed than duke due to fairings.if it does come to india better be by local production else it stands no chance with d390.

                              CBR 500 R Vs Ninja 650 r
47 hp vs 71 for ninja (51% more)
                              and
43 Nm vs 67 for ninja (56% more)

And although it's a tiny bit lighter, 204 kg vs 195 kg (4% less).
Can anybody tell how many secs do N 650 r takes to reach ton mark? If i remember correctly it is 4 to 5 sec secs right? (Ninja 650R/ ER-6F acceleration 0-100 km/h with Leo Vince exhaust [HD] - YouTube & Motorcycle 0-60 & Quarter Mile Times | Kawasaki, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha 0 to 60 Acceleration Sports Bike Specs & More!)

Based on the above stats I think Duke 390 "may not" beat cbr 400r
Still I will prefer to wait for proper test results of cbr 400r.

                              Sorry for OT.
