  • Hero to invest 1100 crore in 2013-14 to retain No. 1 title!

Hero will be using a multi pronged strategy to keep Honda at bay. Recently Honda had said that they hope to be No. 1 by 2015-16.

HMC said that it plans capacity addition, new launches, and network and brand building to maintain its position in the Indian Market.

The fourth plant and new parts centre will be based in Rajasthan. With a fifth plant being planned in Gujarat.

For the 11 months to February, Hero MotoCorp sold 5.46 million units compared with Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India's 2.4 million and Bajaj's 2.3 million, SIAM data showed. Bajaj and Honda are way behind Hero currently to appear to be much off a threat. But Hero is not taking the competition lightly.

New launches are expected to be 'technologically advanced and environmentally friendly'! But what those launches are going to be is pure speculation!

Ravi Sud, Senior Vice-president and CFO, HMC -

"We are no strangers to competition. We have earmarked a capex of 1,100 crore for FY14 and put in place a multi-focal strategy to sustain and build upon our leadership through new launches, capacity addition, network expansion and brand-building initiatives,"
"We are well on our way towards our stated objective of generating annual volumes of 10 million in another five years,"
"The Indian two-wheeler market has become competitive, and market share, once lost, is very difficult to gain. Margins, on the other hand, are temporary fluctuations and can be managed at an appropriate time."
"Most companies hold back investments at the time of slowdown and face the consequences of capacity shortage when demand suddenly picks up. So clearly, we are going ahead with our planned investments."

More importantly, what are they going to produce? More Splendors? They have clearly forgotten the R&D part.

I hope whatever is brewing in there with EBR turns out good. But them producing more motorcycles means only one thing, more splendors and it's siblings. But I do see that hybrid concept going to production sometime soon (read "technologically advanced and environmentally friendly")

But yeah, other products, I expect minor tweaks and stickers. And new engines sans the Honda tag sometime later maybe? If some money goes into R&D i.e

Hero is slowly and steadily heading towards the right direction.Such a large company investing 1100 cr is no joke and definitely something is brewing in their minds. And they have said that they are doing so to retain the No. 1 title, so they will bring out products which will compete with HONDA. So expect something new to come out.

^^ Fingers Crossed and hope that really holds true. In any case, the customer is the one who benefits - be it new products, new designs or new technology.

like a Bollywood movie which has a budget of 100cr but the actor is paid 30-45 crores another 10 crores in an item song and 15 crore for making actual movie yet being a hit, hero will spend a good amount in advertising and endorsement(there was a bike for which it got the entire Indian cricket team) make a new product and drag it for another 10 years.people will buy even a bullock cart if sold by hero.that's their reputation.
honestly hero impulse is a very radical design but it came 5 years late to the party.another good bike to look forward is the honda-ebr "sports" bike

It's good to know that Hero is preparing for future, but I wonder why would they need to invest? after all majority or almost all of their sales are from Splendor/Passion

                              The title should read..

"Hero to invest 1100 crore in 2013-14 to retain No. 1 title in paint & vinyl design".

No offence but seriously please spent all the money on r&d if not give it to charity for more better smiles.
