i like what they did to the design. it screams KTM all over. sharp edgy lines with futuristic design.
64 km range is too small.
in India with frequent power cuts due to shortage of electrical energy these things will surely not be useful. two hour recharge looks good but i wonder what is the wattage it would draw in that two hours.

“The “E-SPEED” is powered by a liquid-cooled, permanent-magnet synchronous motor with 36Nm of maximum torque and a permanent power of 11kW to drive the rear wheel via a belt drive.
36Nm? That's monstrous, considering my CBR is at 23Nm only. Or, am I missing something here?
Moreover, 140 kg feels a bit too heavy for a scoot this size. The 64km range won't be a big disadvantage, considering it can top-up in just two hours from a regular socket. Nobody would think of touring on it - so it makes sense.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Hmmm...understandable. I really need to know whether that 36Nm torque is at the wheels or at the motor?

very modern / Futuristic design, loved it, very different from anything else out there

PS : The battery is really making this a very heavy machine

I really don't see electrics as the way forward for a few reasons 1) Battery technology does not seem to be developing that fast enough to catch up with shortage of Fossil fuels. 2) Re-charging again needs lot of time and ironically more electricity which as we all know is neither cheap to produce nor is it Eco-friendly 3)The range is ridiculously low

Better option could be Hydrogen if we can find a way to control it

No for top speed, but for that 36Nm torque??

                    (3) No space for luggage
Yea, its a scooter, but why should you carry luggage on this sexy!! At least they're not making bikes for each and everybody.

                    (4) seat...?? ... ah... its just a concept.
Yea its a concept. remember Duke 200/125 concepts? that one race and stunt models??. End'd up being so close to what we see today, but with a lil more ergonomics, favoring the user. and very unlikely we're get'g this scooter here. 'cos for us we need 'jack of all' kinda motorcycle!

That said, even the 2013 Reva (E2O?) has a 80kph top speed. We can't expect a Zero everytime! (www.zeromotorcycles.com)

LOL, just noticed, with the Leap concept, now Hero and Zero both running for electric bikes!

Interesting discussion about torque output of electric motors vs IC engines:
Why do Electric Motors have High Torque?

a bit OT : since you guys mentioned about the all electric mahindra reva just compare the vehicle with the volkswagen all electric up! car. the design ethics are just so good. wish mahindra gets a clue in how to make a vehicle look good. they did wonderful when they designed the evergreen handsome Scorpio car. on a personal note they really need to redesign the reva car. it was the one that catapulted them to one of the largest sellers in SUV segment.

Re: KTM displays electric scooter concept in Japan

Even though earlier KTM CEO Stefan Pierer had said no to production of electric motorcycles. But now it seems that KTM will be readying its electric motorcycle and scooter for launch.

The Motorcycle Freeride E is slated for a 2014 launch and the electric scooter E Speed is scheduled for a 2015 launch.

“We believe in the electro-mobility on two wheels. Because offroad sport is our core area, we have developed an E-Crosser, the FREERIDE E, but we are also convinced that urban mobility can succeed in urban areas,”
“Because of the very positive feedback following the Tokyo presentation, we have decided to transfer the results from the development of the E-Cross bike also into the road segment. The E-SPEED is our interpretation of emission-free propulsion for city use, but without compromising on the design and sportiness of our KTM genes!”
