    March 2013 - Sales Report

    TVS Motor Company Sales down by 8.18% in March 2013. Sales stood at 167583 units in March 2013 as compared to the corresponding year in 2012 at 182527 units. Domestic two wheeler sales also fell by 10.8%. Scooter sales were down by 25% in this month. Two wheeler exports were flat as overall exports grew.



    Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) sales rose by 15% in March 2013. Sales for March 2013 stood at 252773 units as compared to 220487 units in March 2012. Motorcycle sales jumped 47% in this month. Scooter sales were down by 4%.

    India Yamaha Motor March 2013 sales grew by 20.5% as compared to the corresponding month of 2012. Sale in March 2013 stood at 50473 units as compared to March 2012 which was 41886 units. In the domestic market the sales of the company grew by 20%.

    Hero Moto Corp reports fall in sale for the month of March 2013. Sales fell by a 11.36% from 528290 units in March 2012 to 468283 units in March 2013. Persistent inflation, firm interest rates, rising fuel prices and negative consumer sentiment were the reasons given for the reduction in the monthly sales.

    Bajaj Auto March motorcycle sales fell by 11% in March 2013. Sale in March 2013 stood at 2.67 lakhs, while exports were down by 6%.

    The Japanese manufacturers are going ahead with all guns blazing, with Honda in the lead. The Indian manufacturers suffered another dismal month. Is Honda's confidence not misplaced in overtaking Hero for top honours in the not so distant future?

        Blame it on the typical Indian mentality of praising Japanese products and under estimating our own or the deficiencies in our own products or the better brand name that Honda and Yamaha enjoy.

        Any which way you look at it, the common ignorant person on the street associates brands in the following way
        Honda = Best engines, reliability, efficiency, quality
        Yamaha = Performance, reliability, handling, quality
        Suzuki = reliability
        Bajaj = hopeless sh*t, totally unreliable, no efficiency, unrefined, plastic crap, cheap quality
        TVS = Indian performance, vibes, hit in the south Indian regions
        Hero = used to be good when associated with Honda..now bad engines and quality
        RE = Bull, indestructible, king of the road, go anywhere cruiser(slightly high on maintenance), only for the real men
        Kawasaki = who? ahh...the Japanese...not present in India
        KTM = who?


        Disclaimer: The above perception of brands written based on my interaction with people from real jerks, average bikers, grease monkeys to avid bikers. Do not wage a brand war on seeing this.

          Nobody gives a damn about your good bikes if you don't do marketing. Simple. Lately bajaj has become complacent with marketing.

            As far as my analysis of the Indian market goes, SHOW sells. If you are good at creating drama and show, you will sell. Honda and Yamaha are selling because of CBR250 and R15. Is it called the aura effect in marketing language? But that is just my theory.

              But then, where does Honda or Yamaha put out advertisements or marketing campaigns? For that matter even Bajaj hasn't been associated with any advertisement barring the Pulsar mania almost half a decade back.

              The brand affinity or bias towards the Japanese brands is enough for the masses to move to showrooms without the need of any marketing push.

                Dhoom bikes sir! Fully faired bikes. It should theoretically change after KTM RC250 and Pulsar 350 Faired ones.

                  People in rural, semi-urban areas don't know about these bikes(Duke and even 200ns) and have even never heard of them. All they know is Hero Honda and Bajaj.. For them Splendor is hero honda(interchangeable) and pulsar is bajaj. 90% have hero honda bikes for obvious reasons. Few weeks after 200NS was released i asked the bajaj showroom guy in my place to get the 200ns for a test ride from the city showroom and told that i would buy it in some days. He responded saying that 200ns is a failure model and no one wants to buy it and asked me to go for some other bike. If these guys are themselves ignorant or lazy, how can people get hold of these bikes.

                  Duke is still a mystery to most.

                  The best way forward for Indian manufacturers especially bajaj is to set up ads in doordarshan channel starring John Abraham with a Duke or Salman with a 200 ns.(JFF)

                    My opinion is that KTMs are like Apple iphone, people and media market them free of cost in the form of articles.
                    TVS is loosing its ground because they don't have anything else apart from RTR180 which they have redesigned in an unlikely fashion. Here we are waiting for a Superman (RTR with lots of bhps and cc), which lately looks like a myth.
                    Bajaj! you have all said it, unreliable. Moreover we don't see any Ads from them on TV.

                            I also feel there is an element of truth to these statements. How else would one build a reputation, only through a history of products, not what is offered in the menu today.
