Aren't the two statements contradictory to each other? on one hand, they people consider them a 'premium' brand, yet, they haven't managed to cross the 150cc barrier, which Bajaj, TVS and Honda have crossed long back with bikes ranging from P180 to CBR250, while Yammie still banks on the success of R15 & FZ16.

Many who consider buying a new bike are choosing between the products Hero, Bajaj, Honda and even TVS has no one is even aware that Yamaha has bikes called YBR series its a sad thing for a universal leading company like Yamaha
As stated, Yamaha has become complacent after the success of the R15 and FZ series. Other brands have their own flagships, yet they manage to fit the image of commuter-makers. Best example here would be Honda, with the legendary CBR twins in their fleet, still manage to keep their image as commuter brands with excellent commuter bikes like the Shine and the Unicorn. But Yamaha has completed ignored excellent commuter bikes like the SZ-R and the YBR derivatives (YBR110, YBR125, Gladiator, SS125)

This premium image is created by Yamaha's wonderful performance oriented 2 strokes the mighty (RD & RX). It is the 2 strokes which created deep thoughts in the people of India think Yamaha can manufacture only performance oriented motorcycles ..... I never mentioned that their four strokes have made people think they are premium brand... Except Honda as you mentioned the other manufacturers who broke the 150cc barrier have the image or brand value that Yamaha has.... I am not against any brand and not creating any brand wars.... I accept with you its high time for Yamaha to make some serious products they cannot ride very long with the success of R15 and FZ's ....
      Yamaha RX100 (1993)
      Yamaha RX135 (2000)
      Bajaj Pulsar 150 (2004)
      Yamaha FZ-25 (2017)
      TVS N-Torq (2018)

I for one welcome the move by Yamaha to try and get a piece of the low cost 2-wheeler market. This segment hasn't seen activity for a long time and not many seem to be interested in going at it. The Crux and the HF Dawn are past their time and their engines deliver shoddy mileage figures in the 60s when ideally it should be in the 80s or 90s looking at how efficient modern bikes are. If Honda and Yamaha decide to refresh this dying segment, its only good for the customer.

Miss the glorious past!!! But the present day products are no bad per se. The Gladiator is still one of the best 125s in the market, after the D125ST. The SZR is a very potent contender for the 150cc premium commuter class with excellent low-end torque. I have personally owned and loved both. But one thing which Yamaha seriously lacks is their focus on this segment. When we hear the brand 'Yamaha', we imagine only the R15 and FZ15 - and that's because Yamaha has only focused on that particular segment. That's a fast-moving and profitable segment and they get more profits selling a R15 than whet they get from selling a YBR.

So, instead of new products, they will need to realize that the products which they are grossly ignoring in their portfolio can also boost their sales figures.
