  • Piaggio to build Vespa brand by launching variants

Piaggio to roll out newer versions of the Vespa, to target 90000 units this fiscal. In the previous fiscal, 35000 units of the Vespa were sold in the first 11 months. The plan is to double the sale this fiscal.

The new variants expected to be launched are a disc brake version and multiple colour schemes to please all consumer categories.

Ravi Chopra, chairman and managing director, Piaggio Vehicles India -

Earlier, Piaggio had planned to launch scooters under the Piaggio brand to take on the Activa, Ray, Duro etc. But Piaggio has now put those plans on hold, as it is solely concentrating on the Vespa brand.

good news, but old news. i wish they come up with some good high powered scooters instead of going by the motorcycle way, where each manufacturer is hell bent on producing a hero beating 100CC bike.

Dont see a mention where they are going the motorcycle way. From what I read they are shifting back focus on more powerful versions of Vespa rather than same old 100cc options under Piaggio.

This is a very good brand building move to justify Vespa as a premium brand. And they should include the GTS 300 (CBU/CKD) in that line up. IMO it will have less takers but then it will give the brand Vespa in Inda a totally diferent image .
Imperfect human knowledge may be a bumpy, pot-holed street but its the only road to wisdom worth taking . . .

+1. I am definitely one of the takers. Have always been a big time fan of the GTS250/GTS300.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!
