The new plant will have a production capacity of 25000 units a year. The bikes produced will be commuter motorcycles with an aim to meet the demand for bikes, due to the lack of proper public transport.
The plant will be located in Nairobi and will be only the second plant of Honda in Africa, as the first one is based in Nigeria. The plant will probably roll out bikes by September this year.
In 2008, Honda was selling around 8000 units a year, by 2011 it sold 140000 units in a year! The plant will initially produce only for the Kenyan market, but consequently it will supply for the entire East-African market.
