  • Hero to offer 5 year warranty on all models

Hero MotoCorp today announced that it will be giving 5 year warranties on all its motorcycles and scooters.

Scooters will carry a 50000km/ 5 year warranty and motorcycles will carry a 70000 km/ 5 year warranty. This is to ensure that customers do not lose trust in Hero after its breakup with Honda. This will help allay fears of Hero's potential customers who will be wondering after Honda's engine then 'What next?'. With such a long term commitment towards after sales, the company hopes to be able to reverse its falling sales as seen in the last few months in a slow down market.

Anil Dua, Hero MotoCorp Senior VP (Marketing and Sales) -

Hero MotoCorp currently has over 5,000 customer touch points across the country, including authorised dealerships, state-of-the-art automated workshops, spare part outlets and authorised representatives of dealers

A five year warranty with the substandard and oh so friendly ASC guys would be of not much help to the majority of the customers. I hope they address the problem of arrogant and very unfriendly ASC throughout India.

Hmm... Interesting trend this. Even I had read this news in yesterday's paper and felt good that Hero is actually taking concrete steps for post 2014 by offering industry best warranty. But I casually visited an exhibition here and entered a Mahindra 2 wheelers stall only to be told that the Pantero *also* comes with a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty! I didn't bother asking about the scooters but it was well and truly available for Pantero.

Anyways, I hope that this trend catches on with the competition and such 5 year warranties become the rule in the industry rather than an exception. If they have so much confidence in their products, it should show in the warranty they offer.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

I dont think this is a gimmick. A 5-year warranty on engine is a very big step for any manufacturer, and it will help in building people's trust on the brand. Only thing - they need a radical change in their service team - in matters of attitude as well as aptitude.

Bajaj gave 5 years unlimited km's warranty on the P220 Fi engine.

Was it of any great help - NO!

There are too many loop holes in warranty T&C and after the bike is 3-4 years old ASC's stop bothering too much about warranty. At the end of the day, warranty is up to the ASC's discretion and they usually hate putting in warranty claim changes.
