  • Hyosung plans 125/150cc models from Maharashtra Plant

    DSK Hyosung is planning to produce 125/150cc motorcycles at its proposed plant in Maharashtra.

    DSK Motowheels intends to invest around Rs 300-350 crore for setting up this plant. Initially smaller capacity bikes will be produced from there in the next 2-3 years. Construction of this plant is scheduled to begin in the next 6-8 months.

    Currently DSK Motowheels has an assembling unit near Pune for its 250cc to 650cc motorcycles that it sells in India. The assembly unit has a capacity of 250 units per month.

    Shirish Kulkarni, DSK Motowheels Managing Director -

    "We are planning to invest around Rs 300-Rs 350 crore for setting up our second plant in Maharashtra. Mostly we will be finalising the 100 acre land in Maharashtra itself. It will be highly automated plant with a paint shop. Probably the construction should commence in six to eight months from now,"
    "Initially, it will be an assembly plant. Hyosung world over has motorcycles with engine capacity ranging between 125cc to 700cc. We will start with 125 cc and 150cc engines.

    In three to four years (from now), it will be a fully operational plant... We will manufacture premium motorcycles also...,"
    Since June 2012, DSK Hyosung has sold 1200 units and plans to sell 2000 units by 2013 end. The company grew by 60% in the last financial year. Currently the company has 25 retail outlets and plans to add 10 more in Tier II cities.

        Nice.

        They should start a new segment, say in the 170-190 cc range

          Re: Hyosung plans 125/150cc models from Maharashtra Plant

          this is good news, DSK Hyosung Motors is leaving no stone unturned to turn their business venture into a success.

          in 125CC, they have GT125N, GT125R & GV125C models. the engine is a v-twin air/oil-cooled will slightly more compression ratio of 11.3:1 and all other things like body tyres, styling etc remains same as that of 250CC. the GT125R in particular at 182 KGS may be a bit too much heavy for a 125CC bike.

          ::: S&T Motors :::

          pricing will decide as usual in india.

          if they are planning to make the new plant operational in 3-4 years that means it is still a far feached dream, and may be just a marketing gimmick to stay in news.

          a 125 CC bike weighing 182 kgs and costing a couple of lakhs will have very few takers.

          what they need to do is redesign the 250 & 650 GT's inline with current trends, improve mechanicals and electricals, provide standard equipments like forks brakes etc for ex- brakes by brembo or nissin, reduce the weight by 20 Kgs and manufacture them in india and bring the price in-line with CBR250R STD and see the sales chart on fire, but of course DSK cant do all this, hyosung has to do it...

          Hyosung, anybody listening..??

          thanks "newsreaper" for providing some numbers, which i was desperately looking for.

          current assembly units having a capacity of 250 units per month means, 3000 units annual production capacity. that means they are currently not even utilizing even 50% of production capacity since 1200 units sold since june 2012 mens annual sales of around 1400 units only.

          this also means -->

          approx. 1000 X 5.5 lakhs + 400 X 3 lakhs = 6700 Lakhs = 67 Crores income per year apart from service and sales of spare parts. the question is -- is this sufficient to sustain a business in the long run and expand it..??
