  • Zero Motorcycles builds electric bike for the military: xBhp News

Zero Motorcycles have built an electric bike under contract with the US Military for a tactical rugged two wheeler to be used by the U.S. Special Operation Forces.

The Zero MMX is fantastic for use in Special Ops as it is silent, unlike a conventional motorcycle which have extremely loud exhausts. The bike also has negligible heat radiation so that it cannot be detected by thermal cameras. The battery packs are easy to remove and replace, requiring just about a minute to make the change. The battery can be charged in around an hour.

By switching off the headlight, the battery life is extended. The bike also sports a specialized dash with keyless ignition, which allows a rider to get on and ride away immediately. The bike maxes at 85 mph (136 kmph) and returns around 2 hours of power with the largest battery pack among the options available. The bike can be ridden in 3.2 feet of water without any problems. Though it might be difficult for a Special Ops guy to get down and check the depth of the stream, when he is riding away in a hurry!!

Such bikes will probably not work in India, as without any electricity the entire Indian Forces will come to a standstill!!!

now THAT appears like a junior husqvarna nuda
this one is silent like a ghost, has minimal thermal radiation & is a zero emission ride...

        Look at that rear sprocket

amazing tech innovation for the army. How quick and stealthy it would be to raid and breach a terrorist house in Afganistan with this. Mobility support upto the door of the hideouts.

IMO its the biggest sprocket I have ever seen on a running bike and I think the concept of the bike is so good for city bike as see the top speed....

And I think a big sprocket is to reduce the rotation of rear wheel while front sprocket is moving badly fast...Am I right guys? which means it can achieve more top speed...?

Bigger sprocket in the back means shorter gearing and hence low speeds in high rpms,ie lower top speed...
              It is to improve acceleration..

look at that rear sprocket, the vehicle should be able to climb some insane inclines....nice bike...

so, it won't be available for sale to general public.

Oh boy.. that Rear Sprocket is nearly the size of an Activa Tire Rim..
I can't imagine the amount of torque this thing has.. (also considering it is an Electric Motor)
136kph is moree than enough, considering that this will mostly be used for desert / jungle / Barren land operations (my guess) :P
Just wondering, how much weight could this thing carry. Spec Op guys don't exactly pack low

Looks like a interesting concept. How heavy are these battery packs? How many will they need to take with them each time?
Imagine instantly having max torque/hp at the touch of the throttle, unless they have it set up to increase inline with throttle opening.

*puts on flame resistant suit*; and use incendiary grenade while on the bike (Man I love grenades, the damage they do is just irreparable)

Very interesting details (also from gaming point of view),,, would love to see one

Such a big socket can be added on this bike coz it has only one gear and the front sprocket can rotate at insanely high speeds
big socket yet top speed of 136kmph !!!
