A Company can sit pretty with virtually no competition (Eg: Royal Enfield (with its retro models), HMSI with its Activa Scooter, TVS with its mopeds).

    Or...

It would need a mass model at the Entry Level Segment to bring in the numbers (and subsequently the Market Position)

One needs a mass model at the Performance Segment (>150 cc) to rake in the moolah (and sebsequently the profitability)

One needs a Adrenaline Boosting model to build on the Brand Name.

To its credit Hero Honda has been doing numbers and profitabilty with just its 100 cc models (But then hey.. where is the Splendor/Passion Ownership thread in XBHP..??)

Unlike the mightly Japanese brands, for Bajaj and TVS the Indian market is the "Do or Die" market.. The optimist in me don't expect (and want) our "desi" brands to give up without a fight.

      Or...

right said... Bajaj became big with its brand Pulsar didnt have any competition(just good old cbz). when the competition came up, for obvious reasons disparity clearly showed up, the Pulsar brand is fizzing out... so is Bajaj.

Bajaj is surviving only because of Pulsar, when Pulsar goes down, so will Bajaj.

We've been watching this downslide for close to 3 months now, BAL has done very little to stop the slide. Lack of vision and question marks on leadership perhaps!

Pulsar's and Discover sales performance is well but Platina 100 cc sales down to 45000 From 75000 units. It makes more effect of bajaj sales. If we add 30000 units more in dec. sales than bajaj still on 2nd Position.

I really dont think there was any apathy towards the Victor, the company definitely wouldve spent a bomb getting Sachin as their brand ambassador. This was some years back when Sachin was demanding quite a high fee. Guess the market moved the goalposts ahead while TVS werent looking.

Exactly!! TVS lost it big time when they came out with the Centra. They actually launched an offensive against themselves which cannibalized the sales of Victor somewhat as people got confused which one to go for!! Then disaster struck when Centra failed to deliver the sky-high mileage claims and TVS thus lost couple of years of faith which the Victor actually helped TVS to achieve. Had TVS infused some amount of dedication to lift the Victor the brand wouldn't have died.No wonder the bike was still very much in sale in Southern parts of India, 6-8 months back!!

Yep, for sheer numbers one needs a best seller to cater to the masses.

yeah understand that but what i was asking was, 'desk ki dadkhan' sells twice the quantity compared to 'hamara bajaj!' now. but if the baby ninja and ktm were to come in this quarter, wouldnt financially BAL be in a better position? there would be lot of takers i guess.
yeah BAL is financially very well equipped alrite but if they dont move their lazy a** fast enough, they wouldnt be much good end of year.

the baby ninja and the ktm will actually cater to a very small niche segment IMHO. They will be more of a brand building exercise, albeit in a much smaller scale than suzuki, honda or yamaha.
What bajaj needs to do has already been discussed a lot of times in multiple threads -
                    • upgrade the pulsar model
                    • put out a 100 cc bike

Bajaj has a good enough R&D team with them, I guess if they pool in all their resources, concentrate on one product that is a bit different from others, decently powerful and good on realistic mileage, prolly that might help.

What ever they do, all they have to do is make sure they deliver something that does not break down soon, make sure that their customers do not visit their service centers often and most importantly bring a radical change in the service centers, bring down the numbers if need be, but improve the quality with specialized workforce and strict process.

These things might not change the fortunes overnight but will help them in a longer run.

There have been a talk on dual fuel with LPG, maybe they can try it out.
