    Pawan Munjal -

"We are investing Rs 450 crore in the centre at Kukas with plans to commence operations by first quarter of calender year 2015. The company is in the process of investing Rs 1,300 crore in three projects in Rajasthan,"
" We would be providing direct employment to about 3,500 people in these three facilities,"
Munjal disclosed that the R&D centres at Gurgaon and Daruhera plants would also be shifted to the R& D centre in Kukas once it becomes operational.

The company's global technology partners- Erik Buell of Erik Buell Racing of the US, Alberto Strazzari of Engines Engineering, Italy, and Markus Feichtner of AVL, Austria, were also present on the occasion.

Munjal said that the Kukas centre, 20 km north of Jaipur, will employ 600 engineers and support staff and the company will hire the best of global talent to build a truly multi- cultural, multinational set up.

The centre would develop models for both domestic and international markets. Currently, the company is investing 2- 3 per cent of its revenues on R& D. Apart from the R&D centre, the firm is setting up a manufacturing plant and a global parts centre at Neemrana, both of which will start operations in the first quarter of 2014.

Absolutely love the fact that an Indian bike company is going into R&D. Call me naive or hopeful but i'd love for the competition among the middle weights see an Indian brand in it. Hopefully they'll go about also developing a sports 600rr and a bike like the Triumph Tiger with a 600cc powertrain. I'm sure they'll exploit the 250, 400 and naked category for obvious business reasons but need to see that level of finesse in the middleweight and litre class segments to actually gain ground globally.

There is very low demand for Above 350 cc bikes in India..

what about new Karizma..Festive season is just about to come....!

^^ Also the Bajaj 350 is set to launch this festive season. If Hero launch their model at the same time there will be a tough fight.

I completely agree, however for a company setting up large scale R&D, they ought to have an eye to be a global name rather than just Indian. Imagine Hero Moto Corp (However much I detest the name) selling well in EU and US... Thats the kind of upliftment thats needed by Indian cos. If they make a good track RR version... they prove to the world that they've arrived... their bikes will be compared with Jap and Italian brothers and their engines will be test proven. That will give them something to build on... once they make a bigger engine, they'll be able to derive from it for smaller ones... A 1 litre engine is made up of 4 cylinders inline with each having about 250cc of fuel/air mixture, strip it down and you got a twin 500, strip it further to get a single cyl 250 like a ceeber. The Japs and Italians of course are far far ahead but it can be start of Hero spends their development monies well.

With Bajaj already all set to launch the new Pulsar, they will venture into the 350CC zone. This zone is yet to be explored by Hero and any other Indian manufacturer for that matter. (Save RE but we can't really consider it in this aspect). Hero will obviously have to pull up their socks and start to get some mean machines out there if they want to retain the No.1 position.
