Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR

the FI 220 was 20bhp and the carb is 21bhp and thats not the matter.. the craze for p220 was due to the price and the so called fastest Indian which happened to be just 1bhp from its FI version.. when 1bhp can have so much of effect and a 17bhp ZMA nearly matches the 20bhp FI P220..

Well it wasn't only the 1BHP increase that won him the title of the fastest indian and the best selling sports bike. Many factors were involved.
Price reduction had the major impact on sales. But considering the performance, Transmission was the game plan. Modified gear ratios as well as the rear sprocket.

More than the looks of these bikes, I am eager to know what the EBR has done to these engines, with their reputation of being fine racing tuners. Its easy to increase the power output, but they should strike a balance between the power and FE. Fingers crossed.

Now thats not the point.. the 2-3bhp power can reduce the strain on the engine which is a good sign on the highways giving it better highway characteristica which is what many tourers seek for and the seat comfort that that zma and zmr are known for..

That was a typo. Yes the increment was 1 bhp.. but it was a taller 5th gear which also increased the top speed of the P220.

@payeng: Irrespective of the sales Hero might be targeting from these new models, I doubt they are trying to achieve that by increasing the BHPs. They can get more sales by just giving the current bikes a new body

The point is, Hero is not with Honda anymore and hence they have the freedom to make changes in the current engines as per their requirements. If the overall engine is still the same (which is the de-tuned engine of the original CRF230), then there's nothing wrong in making it slightly more powerful without sacrificing the refinement, reliability and the longevity.

Karizma cruises effortlessly at 100kph with a true top speed of around 125-127kph. With slightly more power it will do everything better. Nothing wrong in that, along with the fresh design To think of it, it might actually attract buyers who like to buy Karizma but think their current styling is outdated. More power is just the bonus.

But honestly its not needed as it won't make any difference to the sales.

The reason why P220's sales took off after going carb is because of it reduction of price by 15-20K and not because of its 3 bhp increment. Also its positioning (in the mind of the customer) as the Fastest Indian helped.

The increase in power (by however amount) is 4-5 years too late from Hero. In 2013 a lot has changed. Its impossible for Hero to position the Karizma in the same way it was perceived 5-10 years back. The Karzima at best would attract the late adopters or the laggards (as per marketing speak).

Has anyone, any clue on the patent for release on clutch switching? Am confused.

And someone said it would be difficult for ladies to climb upon the rear seat. Am still LOLing at that comment!! This is the only 220cc bike with such comfy low seats after avenger!!

I doubt it mate.. I don't think it is possible but if your perception comes true.. then these bikes are gonna perform much better than the current bikes with no doubt..

Anyways, the motorcycle looks better than in earlier pics, but I am slightly surprised that we still haven't got a proper side profile pic of the ZMR.

Coming from the guy who owns 390 Duke and is a admirer of Karizma/Xtreme and bit of Hero.

Karizma and 390 are of completely different character. Bringing them into comparison is not wise at least per me. If a company produces a 44bhp from a 373cc engine block it is what they wanted to. It is not that Hero/EBR cant build in similar line, but it is again what they wanted to. KTM caters different category of buyers and so is Hero.

Yamaha 50cc two stroke engine produces 50bhp, but if I compared that with a engine that is almost 7.5 times more the capacity and produces 6 Horses less will make me look like a clown.

Getting out 3 bhp (if true) more of a tried and tested engine which is know for its refinement and robust quality is not an easy job as posting on some motorcycling forum or a blog. What ever Hero did with its restricted R&D and the support from EBR in short time of 1 year is a commendable job and one needs to respect that. Making a statement in the air is easy.

I will still hold my opinion on how the bike looks untill I see in flesh. But as always, HERO bikes look great in flesh than in mobile phone clicked pictures. It is not new that Hero gets bashed on xBHP.

how much bump 220 (carb version) got when it was upgraded/degraded....?????????

Changing the 17" RIM on our ZMRs and ZMAs will reduce the GC.. but the tire profile matters too.. and depends on the fairing.. the new bikes seem like they have the same GC to my eyes.. if they have changed to 17" Alloys, then it is possible that they have reduced the amount of plastic in the fairing (not sure if I am clear )
payeng.. it is still a Karizma engine and the original Honda Engine used to produce ~19-20 bhp power which was detuned by Honda on the Karizma.. I am sure you know this better than me being a senior biker..

now.. the Original Honda Engine is as reliable as the Detuned Karizmas Engine... hence I don't think the tuning by EBR is going to screw the engine.. They are good at tuning as they are into racing and they know more than the Indian Tuners who cheat in the name of Tuning (I don't wanna take names)

if we speak beyond this, its gonna go OT and out of discussion.. I don't want that to happen.. Its just personal needs and budget constraints.. in another 3 to 4 years from now.. I am sure of riding a 400+ cc bike Indian Brand (Hopefully Hero) and yes.. At the moment, I don't have money to buy a brand new bike as the chances of me getting kicked out of my house is 85% and if I get a new bike, I won't have the money to support myself

am looking forward to a full faired Apache with FI and liquid cooling and may be turbo too and may be.. I could own the BMW version
