Built on an all new platform, the new Discover 100 M is priced at Rs 45,996 (with drum brakes) to Rs 49,000 (with disc brakes) ex-showroom New Delhi is pitted straight at the market leader Hero MotoCorp's flagship Splendor and Honda Motorcycle & Scooter's new 100 cc motorcycle Dream Neo.

K Srinivas, President, Motorcycle Business, Bajaj Auto -

""The Discover 100 M is the game changer for us, it should bring us big volumes. We had the presence at the entry level of 100 cc with Discover 4G and a top end of 100 cc Discover 100T, with the Discover 100 M we are bridging the gap of the value segment which accounts for over 45% of the overall motorcycle market.""
""The 100 segment is called as mileage segment, so it is a given, you have to offer a fuel efficient vehicle, but what do we offer more than the mileage, will get us additional volumes. On mileage front, it is hard to differentiate between Hero, Bajaj or Honda, but our USP is more features and power,""
"The market environment continues to remain tough, while the motorcycle market has remained flat in the first six months, our estimate is that at the retail level, the sales are down by 8%-10%. What is more worrying is even in Navratras, the retail sales were down by 8% to 10%,"
Positioned in the mid-priced value 100 cc motorcycle segment, the Discover 100 M is the 10th addition to Bajaj Auto's Discover family of motorcycles. It is positioned between the company's entry level motorcycle Discover 100 4G which is priced around Rs 43,000 and Discover 100 T which is priced at Rs 52,000.With the Discover 100 M and the two new Discover lined up in the next 6-8 months, Bajaj Auto aims to bridge the gap with Splendor which sells about 1.4-1.5 lakh units a month as against Discover family's sales of 1 lakh units a month.

The country's largest motorcycle maker Hero MotoCorp continues to push on the mileage as its key USP and it recently unveiled the new Splendor with i3Smart technology with the idle start-stop system, Bajaj Auto says its the power and features which will set apart Discover 100M from the competition.

The company claims the Discover 100 M offers 25% more power than the competition and features like self-start, spider wheel alloy wheels, Nitrox suspension, long wheelbase for a comfortable ride and a disk brake as an option.

In over half million 100 cc motorcycle space, the mid-price value 100 cc segment accounts for almost 75% of the 100 cc segment and 45% of the overall motorcycle market with the sales of 3.78 lakh units per month.Hero MotoCorp is king in that space with the Splendor which sells about 1.4 lakh units a month and has a market share of over 50%, Bajaj Auto has a market share of 18% to 20% with sales of close to 75,000 units a month and Honda Motorcycle's Dream Neo which was recently launches has started with 25,000 units a month of sales.

Srinivas says the market environment continues to remain sluggish and the new launches are the only way to build volumes, While the two wheeler sales in the month of September grew in double digit, it is likely to be one-off month with a double digit growth, since all the players were in the process of filling up the inventory at the dealerships ahead of the festive season. In a tough domestic market, Bajaj Auto's sales in the first 6 months of FY-14 declined steeply by over 11% to 1.07 million units and the company's market share came down to 15.36%. Srinivas claims unlike the competition which has filled up the inventory, Bajaj Auto's retail and wholesale is more or less at the same levels.

Re: Bajaj New Discover platform to be unveiled on 15th October 2013

    Topic Approved.

If sources are to be believed, it may be the Discover 100M, a junior version of Discover 100T, retaining the 4 valve head, but making a power figure of approximately 9 bhp or so. The 10 spoke alloys can be expected. Monoshock may not actually make it to this bike though..

And its pricing may actually be between Discover 100 4G/5G and Discover 100T. Its an attempt to fill in a segment between "slightly sporty commuter" and "no frills commuter".

In short, its a way to grant the benefits of 4 valve technology to the commuters, but on an otherwise totally commuterish setup on the outside.

it's about time Bajaj started offering tubeless tyres as an option across the model range. In urban areas surely people will take this option.

Seriously! What is the difference between 100M and 100T?

Both the variants got front disc as an option. Besides 100M has 4 gears, while 100T has 5 gears. There is enough differentiation, but calling it all new is a bit of stretch.

I don't think disc is available as an option in 100T. You can take a look here
