Interestingly, while presenting the 390 Duke to Gautam, Mr. Bajaj didn't officially declare him the 'brand ambassador' for KTM as it is not Bajaj policy to appoint a 'brand ambassador' for their products, but he referred to Gautam as his 'customer' apart from a family friend and said that every customer of their product is a brand ambassador for them.
Throwing more light on this association between Gautam Gambhir and KTM, Mr. Bajaj told that it was during an informal discussion over dinner some months ago that Gautam told him that he likes to ride bikes but doesn't have one, and thats one he (Rajiv Bajaj) had this idea of gifting him the then yet-to-be-launched KTM 390 Duke.
In an event which was clearly aimed at giving some 'value adds' to its customers/evangelists, Bajaj/KTM also felicitated the winners/runner ups of the 2012/2013 editions of Raid De Himalaya and Desert Storm rallies. No prize to guess that the people felicitated here were the ones who won these titles riding the KTM Duke 200s.
Some Duke 200/390 customers from the Delhi/NCR area were also invited to be a part of the event.
During this informal chit-chat session, there were several questions hurled at the trio (Rajiv Bajaj/Stefan Pierer/Gautam Gambhir). Some of the questions related to the future launches were cleverly ducked by Mr. Bajaj, though Mr. Pierer was more forthcoming with his answers. He confirmed the plans of bringing the 690 Duke to India sometime in 2015. Also confirmed were the plans of bringing the fully faired RC series to India (RC390 and RC200). We doubt that the RC125 will be sold in India. He also confirmed the plans of producing the Husqvarna bikes in India in a year or so.
