Prices of motorcycles and scooters are set to increase between Rs 1500 - 10000. The new emission norms have already been finalised and will be announced shortly. These new norms are expected to reduce emissions by around 25%, from its current levels. Considering that in India, 75% of vehicles are two wheelers, this will help in reducing the carbon footprint drastically. India currently does not follow the European Emission Norms for two wheelers like it does in Cars.
With these changes in Emission Norms, India will now have it much closer to Global Emission Norms. But for these changes to be made companies will have to invest in improving technologies and devices. Besides improvements in Engine Technology and better exhaust Catalytic converters, companies will also have to invest in Evaporative Emission Control Unit.
The EECU, will be responsible for reducing the wastage of petrol by evaporation from the tank of a stationery bike. To test out the compliance to the new norms, there will a new procedure followed called the Worldwide Harmonised Testing Cycle. These changes are in line with global norms, where Emission Norms are being revised every 5 years and being stricter. This allows manufacturers to be prepared for the expected new changes, as Hero said -
