  • Hero MotoCorp to flex tech muscle with 600cc superbike

    Source: ET

In just over two years since commencing its solo journey, Hero MotoCorpBSE 1.03 % seems set to demonstrate its "global technology initiatives" by unveiling a 600cc superbike at the Auto Expo.

Coming just days after the Pawan Munjal-led two-wheeler market leader showcased an innovative concept model - the world's first turbocharged direct injection diesel-run-bike - and its new 250cc sports bike HX250R, it is likely to be the first Indian two-wheeler maker to bring its indigenously developed super bike at the Delhi Motor Show.

According to two highly-placed sources at one of the top event companies entrusted by Hero for managing its stall at the marquee auto show, the world's largest two-wheeler manufacturer is set to unveil a 600cc power bike, codenamed " Hastur", thereby marking its foray into the world of super bikes.

ET has been able to procure an image of the bike through these sources, which indicate a prototype model will be showcased at the event. "It has an aggressive street-fighter look. The big sporty tyres, performance suspension and the yellowcoloured metal frame tubes make it look lean, nimble and powerful," one of these two persons told ET on condition of anonymity, adding Hero has currently kept the bike under wraps to unveil it at the Auto Expo either on Wednesday or Thursday.

"Going by the initial look of the bike, it seems to have been designed for the international markets, but it is likely to be launched in the domestic market as well at some stage, where super bikes sales are one of the fastest in the world," says the other person.

When contacted, the Hero MotoCorp spokesperson declined to comment on the subject. In the absence of an official confirmation, therefore, further specifications about the bike could not be ascertained.
When commercialised, it would mark Hero's entry into a segment currently dominated by the likes of established players such as Ducati, BMW, Triumph, Aprilia, Kawasaki, SuzukiBSE -0.69 %, Yamaha and Honda. Hero last week pulled off a huge surprise, unveiling RNT and the sports bike HX250R - Hero' s first model to have been developed on a new platform.

    News Approved.

    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Quite interesting. The prototype looks cool and similar to a Buell type design but I guess it is too much of a design concept rather than an actual bike design. It is really surprising that Hero can produce such a bike at such short notice even if its going to be for 2015. Well it makes sense if they want to go after overseas market apart from some limited sales in domestic market too. This is big league and I wish them all luck and hope they engineer it to high performance, else they will be eaten alive.

hmm z800 lookalike albeit with orange color. I am a bit sceptical about the launch timings of heroas all products , since they haven't even launched the updated zmr showcased in october of LAST year.

Not to say the heavy cache of spare parts and service centre re-training they have to take country wide.

Anyways it does make me proud ki apna Indian company can have some kewl prototypes

Also did any one notice its a inline twin.

It's a great concept, but pillion seat is bit too small for Indian standards.

May be influenced by the MV Augusta range of bikes.

What's really assuring from hero and bajaj is that they are on the offensive and in the near future we're going to compete with the Europeans and Japanese.

I would love Honda to be a little flamboyant though ( Honda fan)

I'd say it's greatly influenced by Buell - probably the XB12S and some inspiration from Confederate.

Usually Indian machines aren't quite popular in the US of A, but the strangely named Hastur seems to have caught the fancy of the West. While the new Pulsars received lukewarm response, the Hero Hastur has been a hot topic of discussion, with people likening it to other international middleweight streetfighters liek the Z800 and the D690. If Hero wanted to make a global statement, they have done it, with great effect!

Not just the article, the comments are extremely worth going through as well!

thats really wonderful, sadly its just a concept, and may take too long to materialize, if it may.

but thanks, hero- for showing us the ambitions.
