Re: Teenager's Innovation to minimise two-wheeler injuries

most commuters see helmets as a hindrance. they simply don't care.
this contraption isn't going to change a thing.

traffic cops need to fine the life out of helmet-less riders.

what this country has always needed is penalty points on a drivers license leading to a license being suspended for a year or whatever.

but then comes the idea of cops taking bribes and we're back to square one.

        Lots of discussion... nice.

some students of the Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), Matunga, have developed the ‘smart helmet’, which not only ensures safer driving, but also activates the bike only when the rider puts on the helmet.

A group of budding engineers in Surat have devised a mechanism as a part of their project work that does not enable a bike to start if the rider has not put on a helmet or he is drunk. The mechanism has been developed by four final year students of electronics and communication engineering at C K Pithawala College in the city.

The helmet is equipped with four types of sensors. The helmet requires you to pass the alcohol test; else it will not permit you to start your two-wheeler.

Title of the invention: "Security system for motorcycle crash helmet" .

The present invention refers to a security system for motorcycle crash helmet. Patent US6003156 - Safety helmet lockout system - Google Patente

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The inventive Safety Helmet Lockout System is a system that provides a means of locking out or prohibiting the use of vehicles, sporting goods, access passageways, and various other equipment, etc., if the operator does not have a safety helmet strapped to their head.
        etc etc etc

It's not that these ideas haven't been thought of (and patented) before, but thinking of them and implementing them (even in developed countries) are two different things.
