  • Android Powered Dashboard for Bikes

Checkout this concept demo on an interactive Dashboard based on android for motorcycles. Looks interesting right?

Checkout this demo video too. This technology is currently only exclusive to cars, but I am hoping we could see these advancements into motorcycles soon.

Though a good initiative, it'll take quite a while to materialize for the practical world. Moreover, where do they plan to fit the Infotainment system on a bike? The console? No, thank you!

This is excellent. Would love to have this on the bike.

Engine diagnostics, GPS, call alerts (With this, you'd know instantly if the incoming call is important or not. Saves from doing circus in the middle of the road to retrieve the phone from the trouser pocket)

Ps: I would always stop by the side of the road to answer any call.

Excellent gadget, sadly no chance to install this kind of a device on a bike, until it will come integrated from manufacturer, though I never receive any calls while riding, specially calls from my boss...

Good initiative but not practical for a bike.
Just my personal thought - can a small dashboard like this be mounted in a riding jacket? Because there's no other way a biker can use this in a real time scenario.

We need GPS device & better security system in our bikes but dont need any music system & incoming calls. Love the music of the silencer & dont like to recieve calls during a ride.

Will anyone believe me if I say that I had this idea 2 years ago itself, that too when I first used GPS on a ride on my Pulsar 180, using a mobile?
And I was about to give this idea to KTM over email and was looking for free time to send it.

                Damn.

Why nobody will believe you? Someone else like you had come across this idea and had the resources and opportunity(which you did not have) to implement that.
Keep thinking and I'm sure you will develop a better and more practical idea!
                  Cheers!

Its pointless to have it android based! what a biker(or I, not sure will people agree with this) really needs is a helmet with HUD display! And now since google has come out with glass, it isn't that far fetched! and what is "DIGNOSYS" supposed to be?? xD

Re: Android Powered Dashboard for Bikes

This thing is not coming or about to be announced by any manufacturer but was just the imagination of the blogger. LCD touch screens are everywhere and won't take much to fix it on a bike but there is no market for it and will mostly go against the safety regulations in many countries. The engine diagnostics are close guarded and proprietary and will not be available as such so that leaves only data such as mileage, trip distance, time, etc which are already available in LCD consoles.

Im pretty sure this will replace standard LCD Displays..
Some(high end) Bikes have OBD2 port, So you can get the signals to your Android/ IPhone via bluetooth and you can pull a lot of information
                          form ECU!!
If you have an OBD port A DIY with your phone is possible!

It is very easy. Already I 've done it on my bike.. On the petrol tank attach a transparent file by stitching to the petrol tank cover.
It will form a transparent pouch. Put your tablet in Always Display on mode and put a clip at the edge ( All available in stationery shop). Mine is a Lenovo a3000h with sim data facility.
Open whatever app you want (Google maps, navigation, speedometer)
