  • Yamaha to launch new FZ-S on June 30

Yamaha India is all set to launch a refreshed and upgraded Yamaha FZ-S V2.0. The new FZ-S will look similar to the concept FZ-S showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this year

Yamaha India will launch a refreshed and upgraded version of its best-selling 153cc motorcycle Yamaha FZ-S on June 30.

Competition in the 150cc segment is heating up and with the new FZ-S, Yamaha intends to carry out a product upgrade for its FZ series motorcycles, which have largely remained unchanged except for the addition of a few colour options since it was first launched in 2008.

Yamaha had showcased the FZ-S concept at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo and the new FZ-S is expected to look similar to the concept motorcycle and will most probably replace the current FZ.

Upgrades to the new FZ-S will largely be cosmetic and includes a redesigned headlamp, reworked fuel tank and freshly designed air intakes taken from the concept bike. Other additions include a split seat, reworked tail-lamp, new side panels and a revised mudguard at the rear.

The engine on the FZ-S V2.0 is likely to be the same 153cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine which delivers 14PS of maximum power and 13.6Nm peak torque which is powering the current generation FZ series motorcycles. The engine however, may be tweaked and tuned for improved performance and fuel efficiency.

With options like the new Suzuki Gixxer 150, Bajaj Discover 150F and several new models expected from other manufacturers as well in the segment, prospective customers have a range of choices in the 150cc segment. The FZ has been a favourite due to its butch looks, performance and manoeuvrability and the upgraded FZ-S, Yamaha hopes, will retain its customer base and remain the sales chartbuster for the company.

So the FZ16 would be discontinued?
To me, the minimalist FZ16 looks the best even than the (old) FZ-S. Now this, well, doesn't quite stir me up as the 16 literally shook me up back in 2008. Accolades were showered upon Yamaha upon breaking down all the conventionalism in the commuter 150cc market. Now with this, it seems Yamaha joins the rat race by adding overt cosmetics to the bike.
..and then there are no engine and power upgrades to cry out loud!

atleast a 15-16bhp power figure with torque ranging above 14nm with old design would've been welcomed with more enthusiasm rather than same thing in a slightly different packaging.

This would most certainly come with a FI system ( this has been the most speculated change) and slightly more power figures.

But i like the minimalistic design of my old FZ-16, single tone no rubbish curves.

            Ride safe and have fun.

If the news is true (and i really hope so), then this might be an upgrade in true sense and not just cosmetic change.

its not just a cosmetic upgrade. they have made it FI now.

and i am sure that if it were made with FI and still the same body there would be people still cribbing about the body being old and new colors. True Story.

Haha true. But i would have loved that thing. Some body and new internals.

And ya, i had also said about FI. And if there is increase in cc's, then what else can we ask from a mid-size bike.

Or koi FI lagwa dena meri purai fz mei maza aa jayega.

Re: Yamaha to launch new FZ-S on June 30

So here are the first clear pictures of Yamaha fz v.2
As per dealer there are no changes to the engine except fuel injection which will increase its mileage by 5-7 kmpl and initial acceleration. Both power and torque are same as before which was a kinda shock for me as I was expecting slight bump in power figures. I guess that guy at setco yamaha, delhi was not in a good mood. His behavior was very awkward and that is why I advice all of to wait for official press release as all of you guys must be interested in specs. Now comes the looks part, well looks are subjective but according to me new FZ V.2 is extremely good looking and muscular. Tank design is more fluidic, big and tall than before where as tail is now much sleeker and sharper than ongoing model but mudguard kills the party. Number plate position is better but speedometer is very small. R15's speedometer is any day better than this crappy little thing. It is full 3 kilos lighter which will increase its power to weight ratio. Now it is the lightest bike in its class and it will be around 6000 rs/- costlier over older versions. Overall its a decent upgrade or you can say facelift by yamaha.

P.S: Rear tyre was looking a bit smaller and different from ongoing model but I am not sure about this. I forgot to look closely as I was getting late and somebody at office was waiting for me....

Color combos are better and my favorite White and red combination is back on FZ-S. Fz will also come with proper red color now in place of that crappy maroonish kinda red and speedo is small and toyish.
