Re: Yamaha to launch new FZ-S on June 30

Well ! I would say that the stereotypical Indian thought of fuel efficiency has changed a bit. People are getting to know about the engines and all. And by launching at 76K+ INR, Yamaha is not targetting the mass, urban or rural. FI is a very welcome thing for sure but by decreasing the power they might have made the wrong move. People who will buy a 150cc bike at 76K+ INR will mostly may not be wary of FE but they may be wary of speed and power. But then if Yamaha would have increased the power a bit, like 15 bhp, then they might have faced a slight but sure effect on the R15's sale. So either ways, it would have been great if Yamaha have kept the power figures the same and put a FI system in that. Just some personal thoughts but I think that would be a more a viable solution.

Let me put it in a more realistic manner.

Disposable income of Indians are rising... and therefore the segment of consumers will to spend a bit more for more bling/show off/stand apart (increased more power torque comes with the package) have emerged.

I'll have to agree on that one but more about pure "speed and power", it would be the "Show off" / "standing apart in the crowd" factor.

Injector cleaning at every 6000km? That sure would be quite a pain in the chest as I seriously doubt the most of the SVC s' capability to handle such delicate things

2014 Yamaha FZ FI version 2.0 India first ride

Yamaha has just updated its best seller, the FZ with fuel injection and a lighter frame. I managed to swing a leg over the Yamaha FZ FI version 2.0 for a quick first impression.

Much more readable than before and far less gimmicky and graphic-ky. I like.

OverallThe launch makes the FZ the first new bike in the segment after a really long time and that should bring Yamaha some extra fillip in sales terms.

Yamaha still havent launched the tech specs, have they? I am pretty keen to check the gear ratio for this bike. As far as power is concerned it is just 1 PS more than its lower sibling SZ-R/S (I am just comparing power of the bike and nothing else).

I like the console on this one. much more sportier and elegant.

              Ride safe and have fun.

to me, the new design in not significantly better looking than old one. the new speedo console does look better.

reducing power and torque output to increase fuel efficiency is strange, and will have to wait and watch to see the market reaction, but a bike more costly and less powerful than outgoing model albiet more fuel efficient can be a mixed bag.

they seems to have cured one problem at the cost of another. lets see how market responds.

True that, but why no clock?
Should have added a clock, atleast when the whole console got an upgrade. Makes it easier to keep track of time.

Also, Split Seats are a much needed welcome. Really keen on changing my Fazer's seat to these Splitss if they could be a direct fit.
Lately, this old seat has started giving me a sore down there.

There seems to be an under seat storage space. Am I right?
The speedo speaks of Quality. Actually the only other thing I loved about the upgrade apart from FI.

I think this new FZ will do better sales because the increased mileage is nothing to scoff at. I believe they have done a clever trade off, an 8% reduction in power but gaining nearly 15% in mileage. With Fuel injection this may perform even better on city streets than the outgoing model.

The design is something not radically different than the earlier one and with better console and all this will surely click.

Yamaha are themselves suspicious about the success of this version2, becuase of which the older version will be sold side by side with the newer version, if the sales chart kept ticking with the newer version then i think they will stop previous version, people buying Yamaha bikes never cared for the mileage, yamaha bikes are not known for mileage they are known for there handling, fun to ride, and overall build quality, yamaha has tried to play this mileage game before and had failed terribly. All of those previous 110cc bikes from yamaha are nowehre to be seen.
