The study that involved 8262 motorcycle crashes came to the conclusion that motorcycle lane splitting is not any more dangerous than regular motorcycle riding, provided that certain guidelines regarding lane splitting is followed. A year ago the CHP had come out with a set of guidelines for motorcycles to safely split lanes, but these had to be taken down after protests from motorists. The guidelines given were -
2. If traffic moves at more than 30 mph (48 km/h), you should not split lanes
3. It's safer to split lanes 1 and 2
4. Look around you carefully before deciding to split lanes
5. Keep in mind that other road users might not be aware of you coming between the lanes.
On the road do you find lane splitting safer or sticking to the lane?

. In fact you will routinely see vehicles travelling on the right most lane present on expressways for overtaking
