TVS Motors is now the second largest seller of scooters in India after Japanese manufacturer Honda. Hero MotoCorp has been lagging in scooter sales due to its production constraints. TVS ended up selling 189875 units ahead of Hero with 166552 units in the second quarter. The data was released by SIAM.
The Chennai based manufacturer has tasted success thanks to its two new launches the TVS Jupiter and the TVS Scooty Zest. The Jupiter now accounts for 50% of the company's total domestic production.
This increase in scooter sales has also helped the company recover ground in overall market share as well. TVS now has a 15.6% market share in the first six months of FY15.

To tackle the production-related issues, Hero on its part, is increasing its scooter capacity to 100,000 units by January and 150,000 units by mid-2015 from 80,000 units a month. A part of the new capacity will come from the under-construction Gujarat plant. Further, the Munjal-family promoted company, has promised to launch at least two new scooters in the next one year. This could include the 110-cc Dash and 125-cc Dare.
