seems like you are full of hot-air.

PM has nothing to do with Guj buying HD's, he left the CM post more than 7 months ago, remember ?

a friend claims this is part of HD's promotional campaign to popularize harley's as police bikes in India, meaning they paid for part/all of the cost.
no idea if that's true though.

Thanks a lot for that observation sir! Yes, I did sign up on xbhp for you to judge me.

If you are going to tell us that a person who vacated their CM post and went on to become a PM would completely forget about his/her home state, I can't help but laugh about it. If what you say is true, please explain why every single foreign dignitary visiting India on an official visit is visiting Modi's home constituency in Gujarat every single time? I don't see anything wrong with people from a state diverting investments/jobs to their home state when they become central ministers or a PM. It has happened in the past and will continue to do so.

Coming back to our topic, I have nothing against Harley but I don't see the point when we have good homegrown brands, why use foreign ones? It is not as if a RE Bullet is cheap looking or unworthy to be used for government purposes. Both the Americans and Brits use only their respective homegrown brands for official use in their respective countries. It is not as if Harley is doing it free for life. If they gave away a couple of bikes free for now, it means that they are getting good publicity in India and expecting future government contracts with which they can make a ton of money.

You got to walk the talk if you want real changes to happen! Make in India is of no use when you neglect homegrown brands.

"..... and removing excise duty relief to hit an already limping automotive sector and make things that much more unaffordable for the Mango Man". Sorry but i just had to extend your last line

That money would have put 10 Karizmas for patrol duty and might have been useful to keep crime rates low instead of having these bikes only to escort VVIPs. Even the US of A uses GM/Ford products for all their government and agency purposes as a sign of respect to their homegrown manufacturers. What good is Make in India if your govt endorses Imported products?

Agree with AGR on what 'make in India' is.

Raintree! Bro u r partially correct. Having said that don't want to blame the political party stuff or PM, but agree with using home grown machines.

If we want to use elite products for escorting vvips & not chasing criminals, then home grown 535cc beasts are respectful.

For chasing, I think they must be using pulsar 220 already (not sure though, just a guess).

raintree, that you think that the PM of a country interferes or takes police purchase decisions of some city police thana (even if it is in his own state) only shows the knoweledge and acumen you possess (or rather the lack of it) about how this country functions.

to be honest it says more about you than any other personality. I am no fan of this decision but to blame the PM for it.... is stupid, to put it mildly.

oh and thanks for bringing in politics in the bike thread !

Oh so it was for escorting PM. And Mr.Boom was accusing raintree for nothing \"\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Guess now we can indeed point fingers at politicians and their whole Make In India campaign afterall!

edit: So now that they are not going to be used by cops, what will happen to these bikes? Who made the decision to buy Harleys before consulting police personnel and ofcourse, who\'s money is being wasted in this decision now? The last question is common sense ofcourse.

Re: Harley-Davidson to join Gujarat Police Fleet: xBhp News

Let's not point fingers at others. For a moment let us think logically. 'Make in India' is a govt initiative aimed at boosting the health of our manufacturing sector and it aims to put us on the same pedestal as the Chinese. Generation of employment, skilled work force development, improving investors confidence, weaning off the economic growth from over dependency on the services sector are some of its objectives. What does make in india do? Manufacture products for domestic and international manufacturers at an attractive price. What we get in return? Employment, economic growth and stability. What do we do in turn? Buy quality products for our consumption there by benefitting the manufacturers. Make of the product takes second seat, we would be more concerned with the products performance. This holds true for any consumer market. So let us stop linking Harleys for police to Make in India initiative. Coming to the second view that it's the taxpayer's money, yes it is. So should v be critical about it? Hmm..our former President Mrs.Pratibha Patil spent approximately 7cr annually on foreign tours taking along with her the entourage of her extended family. Even that was our money. There are hundreds of instances like these. So let the police enjoy their HD's n let us enjoy our's. May be they may even apply for xBhp membership in future.

what does a patrolling havaldar/constable earn (monthly official Salary) ? If the same constable recieves a salary of Rs. 50,000 per month+ perks would he still take a bribe or unofficial salary as you call it??
Could you also enlighten us about their equipment. DO you know most of the constable use Lathi- wear just a shirt and pant-no protective gears? Do you know the weapon they use is called a 101 rifle last used by British in World war-2?
Please compare apple to apple- use your common sense. We are talking about the riders of these Harleys Davidsons and Not referring to IAS/IPS officers salaries and incentives. Anyone working for a civic body will be called a Civil servant.

I am just reading other few posts, wonder why are some passing personal comments?! Please stick to a logical or factual point if you have any and avoid looking like a low-life.
