On-Road price is pretty expensive for a Platina, @ 54k (Mangalore, according to this source) - but then this probably also includes the increase in excise duty.

Around 5k increase in price for electric start, slightly higher power figures, slightly higher ARAI mileage and a couple of new colors (the attached image of Electron Blue does look good!) looks slightly high IMO, unless it also comes with full DC electricals (of which there is no mention on the website).

I am no expert in marketing, but one of the reason why Bajaj commuters sell initially is because of the unrealistic mileage which they stress on, later when owners don\'t get the promised figures(thanks to road/traffic conditions) they get disappointed and product flops! Hero and Honda stress the word mileage on their ad campaign but not the exact figures, and mostly sales people on the showroom quote realistic figures from my experience, this strategy many not bring the initial hype, but it makes sure that produce doesn\'t get any negative publicity from the owners.

From my experience Bajaj showroom sales folk DO quote real world mileage and not the ARAI figures.

Right from the days of 4S Champion to Platina ES, inclusive of Boxer, Caliber, Byk, CT 100, Discover, Wind125, XCD, Discover 100, the advertisements always quote high ARAI and I have even seen some of the users claim that their Bajaj gave 80Kmpl. However, I have seen many people getting disappointed that the ARAI and actual numbers are too different.

@Experts: Does having a DTSI for a small bike, under <125cc, really help in performance?

Totally agree. These type of unrealistic figures set very high expectations. To me, these type of claims just mean one thing - trying to portray how ahead they are from the competitors. Put in other words, demeaning others indirectly.

what is the point of launching so many models so close to each others, that everybody gets confused and then heads for nearest hero / honda showroom.

its a nightmare, for everyone, including sales ppl, mechanics, owners, prospective buyers, almost everyone. so many models, so many discontinued models, so many yet to be launched models.

I believe that while the normal Discover got 91 kmpl from Arai, this one claims 96.

So, realistically, we can expect 3-4 kmpl more I guess. And that's not unbelievable in my opinion.

Although, I still wonder how much a 90cc fuel injected, tuned for mileage engine in a lightweight body can churn out.... But, that hasn't happened yet.

I have been thinking of this for a very long time! why not a FI commuter with big mileage figures, if market is ready to pay 90K for 150cc bikes I don't see why people wont pay 75K for a bike with small FI engine, but looks surely plays a role! An 110CC FI bike with around 11bhp and 100KG weight sounds good!

I would certainly buy a commuter with a large body size, big seats, small engine, around 7 horse power atleast, some 80+ km/L real-world mileage (in traffic), disc brakes all around, ABS, traction control, FI, tubeless tyres, DC electricals, dual projector lamps and a super efficient automatic gearbox thrown in. This would be what I'll really be able to call a true Indian commuter. Mass produced, such a bike shouldn't cost over 90k on-road which looks pretty reasonable.

                      Nice sarcasm.

I did a re-thinking on my point, and I guess, I take it back. Fi might be great for the environment, but not for the common man, unless the Fi systems are made cheaper.
Let's get real on the savings part:

According to a rough calculation I did, a Fi motorcycle owner would be able to cut his overall fuel bills by around 10%.
But he pays a premium of Rs. 12,000 approx.

So it means, he must save atleast Rs. 12,000 (10%) which means, he should spend around Rs. 1,20,000 on fuel to get some benefit. Divide this by Rs. 70/ litre to get an approximate litre consumption figure, which 1714 liters.

Imagine if his bike gives a mileage of 80 kmpl, then he must travel more than 1,37,120 kilometres to make the Fuel injection system economically worthwhile.

Frankly speaking, too much to expect from a commuter in today's era of mass produced motorcycles... Although I was wondering on how a 90cc Fi bike might turn out, but I think Fi is not practical for the common man.

However, if Bajaj or another company can somehow reduce the premium for Fuel injection systems, to around 5k or so, then we may have an arguably valid long term proposition.

2-valve means better torque down low and a curtailed topend.
Also 0.88 Kgm is 8.62 Nm and not 12.75 Nm as stated in first post.

                          BANG ON!
I remember i bought Bajaj Boxer AR in 2002 and ditch Mighty HH Splender just bcoz Bajaj Sales person quoted more than 75 KMPL real time millage against Bajaj Claimed 91 KMPL for their new K-Tech engine.

Since i was in my Graduation days that time i got convinced from the millage figures and bought Boxer AR.

And dont know why i never got more than 55 kmpl from that machine, whereas my friends was easily counting more than 70kmpl on their HH CD100.

Later i sold and bought HH Glamour and CBZ (now) where i am getting similar millage figures with ultra smooth engine and transmission.

Never thought of buying Bajaj again.

Its not like their commuter bikes are bad, but its just bcoz they set high expectation on millage (one of the key factor to decide) and later buyer (Like me) gets disappointed of opting this against better products available through today.
