  • Hyosung coming up with Street Naked!

DSK Hyosung will launch two new 250cc motorcycles in India in 2014. The first will be the Aquila 250 cruiser which will be launched at the Auto Expo in February followed by an all-new 250cc street naked in April called the GD250N.
The GD250N will take on the KTM 200 and 390 Duke

Re: Hyosung coming up with Street Naked!

    Topic Approved.

This Hyosung GD is a single cylinder. Hmm... Strange... While most of you may think it could be for some serious cost saving, I'm thinking something else altogether...

Up there, the lesser (2) cylinders of Superduke 1290 are making it the ultimate performer on street, in terms of weight, power, torque, etc. and scaring the hell out of Litre class bikes, whose biggest saving grace is their being under the 1000cc mark, and staying competitive in racing world.
Ducati Panigale 1199 is on a similar onslaught too, albeit remaining competitive by Wsbk & many other standards. RC8R is similar in some ways too, to this crowd of lesser cylinders.

They may/ may not match the S1000RR or ZX 10R outrightly, but look at the margin of difference & other benefits in exchange of it... (?) And what if tomorrow this changes?

Should we finally conclude that except for racing & drags, lesser cylinders are actually overall better? They actually weigh lesser & in a street like environment, can benefit more from the torque down under... And even their Performance to Cost ratio is considerably lesser, which is an important factor in India. As long as we can increase capacity without problem, wouldn't it better to have less cylinders?

Funny thought, and I wonder if Hyosung is even remotely thinking on these lines, or is it just "cost" they're thinking about. Either ways, if this marks Hyosung's Indian entry into Mass production world, then they're all welcome.

I think the original comet was a much better looking bike than this thing. Infact they can plonk this new engine into their existing comet or gt250 which looks much better and classier than this bike

Agree with the Comet part, though not too sure about the GT250. It's a completely different league no doubt, but it's usability as a daily ride is questionable due to its extreme ergonomics. I'd certainly prefer a more usable bike.

good to know that R& D dept of hyosung is still running. good that they are launching a product with a new engine in 250CC class with LC.

but the bike in photo sucks big time. what a design.

I rather find it Ok. Muscular than the duke. Guys who find the duke a bit emaciated, would find it rather well fed.
btw I was wondering, the V-twin GT 250 and the single 250 would have the same power output. A bit surprised. Or may be after this the GT would get a hike in it's figure, to maintain it's flagship status in the small bike segment?

I'd say it looks like the sin-child of a FZ-16 and a Ninja 650. Except for the angular tank, nothing else resembles a Duke.

I dont think its even 1% similar to duke....its totally different. Just because they are targeting duke does not mean its similar.

The design looks kind of strange. It has a heavy looking rear and middle. However, the front looks skinny!
Either the front forks are too skinny or the rest of the heavy body is making it look like that.

Anyways, where is the faired version?

Wow!! The launch is impending. No zebra paint means, Hyusung wants as much attention as possible But actually I think the zebra test mules attract more attention than a normal paintjob
btw this may turn out to be the best naked available in India under 250 cc(I am not sure when the Z250 single/twin will be launched here. If they somehow proce this below 2 lacs, I think this might sell given the superior specs compared to the Duke 200. Quality wise I don't think this will lag behind the KTMs a lot

Btw I have pointed to this earlier too, the specs are similar to the Vtwin motor Hyusung offers on the GT250R. So does it mean the Vtwin models , since it's supposedly more premium, would get a spec boost? Any news on that front anyone?
