In a classic example of reason above tradition, a father from Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan created a fine example by getting a helmet awareness message printed on his daughter's wedding card, which read as below:-->
Phir Bike chalao!
Then (only) operate a motorcycle. "
Ramesh Chand Sharma from Sawai Madhopur took this noble initiative, and it was met with appreciation from all. Sharma got the first exposure to a formal training in the Road Safety Week Training by Police Dept. He earned a certificate for his participation in awareness initiatives by Center for Road Safety. Then months later, while returning from a religious event, a person overtook him on the road, but slipped barely 20 metres ahead, and fell down head first. Sharma stopped and called up the 108 Ambulance service and thus, the victim's life was saved.
But, in Sharma's opinion the victim would've done much better, if he would've used a helmet while operating his motorcycle. Sharma also stresses on the importance of helmet for the pillion.
In this effort, Sharma got the full co-operation of his family, although initially the idea was taken humourously. Eventually, even the Police appreciated Sharma's noble effort. A total of 500 cards were printed and the relatives appreciated this initiative.
Sharma's wife is also a social worker, and she too stressed that while attending marriage events or even otherwise, people are often in such a hurry that they pick up speed in order to make up time, which is dangerous. This often results in a tragedy, thus changing an auspicious-considered event like marriage into a mourning.
The concerned wedding happened yesterday, i.e. 5th June 2015. This news received good media coverage by SamacharPlus's TV Show, "Aisa Pehli Baar Hua Hai".
Expected reach from the 500 wedding cards, according to Sharma is around 5000 people, but the subsequent media coverage has no doubt, multiplied this message's reach.
And we can be sure that most of the guests must have traveled to the event wearing helmets (if on motorcycle), since Sharma jokes that on seeing someone not adhering to the message, he will instantly ask the reason.
