Re: Chennai Riders apprehended by Mahabalipuram Police, made to strip.

This is shameful...We should do whatever possible to at least show our protest.

I was caught by traffic police in JP Nagar, bangalore few weeks back for over speeding. When I checked in the interceptor, I was riding in 54 kmph. The 2* officer then argued with me saying any speed above 50 kmph is a punishable offence. We didn't know any common language to communicate with each other So we both got frustrated after arguing for 15 mins. He even asked me why do you have a driving license registered in Orissa, why not in Karnataka.
Another old aged north indian gentle man was caught for overspeeding in his TVS xl super. He was riding in 52kmph. The officer told the old man to go back to Delhi if he can not obey the law in Karnataka.
We both had to pay the fine of 300 bucks as that was as per law. But I found it weird to pay fine after riding sedately.

India is the only place where people fear the police more than goons. When a police catches you it's like the air rushes out of your lungs as you mentally prepare yourself for the hefty sum of charges that are to be paid. Along with the police its the outdated laws & non awarness of common people on laws which leads to even more problems. I have numerous cases personally experienced some good, some bad with the police. I'm sure everyone has. These are some recent cases i encountered.

Case-1: Ride from Pune to Hyderabad.
Stopped at Karnataka border RTO checkpost. Routine questions from cops, a big surpise when they know m going to Hyderabad on bike. One of them asks me for documents which ar ein the inner liner pocket of my jacket. I start opening the helmet, bacalava, glasses and suddenly he say STOP, enough!!! His words:- "You are wearing too much clothes, just leave".
End Result: Good Cop, didn't bother as he thought a fellow all geard up on a interstate ride must have all the documents. No money charged.

Case-2: Ride from Pune to Goa for IBW 2015.
Stopped somewhere on way to Kolhapur. All docs check out, totally geared up. Cops dont find anything to charge us as we were within 80kmph.
End Result: Let us go without a fine.

Case-3: Test ride of Benelli 600i. Full geared.
I was on my way from Baner to hinjewadi to get some things. Stopped under the police chowki by the bridge. I had the papers DSK had given along with my helmet and full gears. This Benelli had the IXIL Exhaust and was creating a thunder on the go. Police didnt allow me to go, were going to fine me.
End Result: I told them i was from the Media and this is a Test Ride bike. Immediately let me go.
Love ur Ride and keep it maintained, its what brings u safely back to home

Can someone quote..what exactly is the city speed limit during the rush hour and after that (i.e.) Speed inside city before and after 10 pm. And what is the designated highway speed for a 2-wheeler.

Searched in google..It says in Chennai, inside city, Speed for a 2-wheeler cannot exceed 50kmph. Is that true ?

I think these limits are defined by the State Goverrnment, so may change from city to city.

The State Government or any authority authorised in this behalf by the State Government may, if satisfied that it is necessary to restrict the speed of motor vehicles in the interest of public safety or convenience or because of the nature of any road or bridge, by notification in the Official Gazette, and by causing appropriate traffic signs to be placed or erected under section 116 at suitable places, fix such maximum speed limits or minimum speed limits as it thinks fit for motor vehicles or any specified class or description of motor vehicles or for motor vehicles to which a trailer is attached, either generally or in a particular area or on a particular road or roads:Provided that no such notification is necessary if any restriction under this section is to remain in force for not more than one month.

50 is the max speed allowed for 2 wheelers in almost all cities in India . Outer Ring Road Bangalore - 50 kmph, ALL other roads in city - 40 kmph.
NICE road/highways - 80 kmph unless mentioned otherwise.
