  • Bajaj Auto to more than double Pulsar RS200 production

NEW DELHI: Buoyed by robust response to new sports bike Pulsar RS200, Bajaj Auto is ramping up monthly production of the motorcycle model by over two-fold to 4,000 units in the next two months.

The bike, which was launched in March, priced at Rs 1.18 lakh and Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), is averaging monthly sales of 1,700 units.

"The market response to RS200 has been really good. Currently the bike is available in 56 cities but we have not been able to expand beyond because of capacity constraints," Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL) president (Motorcycle Business) Eric Vas told PTI.

In order to overcome the constraints, he said the company is increasing output at the Chakan plant, where the model is manufactured.

"We are gradually ramping up production from 1,700 units a month now to about 4,000 units per month by August," he said.
Vas said the Pulsar RS200 along with bikes from sister concern KTM will help the company enhance its position in the 'super sports' motorcycle segment priced between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh.
From selling 614 units a month on an average in FY13 to 4,034 units in the April-May period this fiscal, he said BAL has been able to increase its market share in the segment.

"As of May, we have a market share of 56 per cent compared with just 13 per cent in FY13. Our aim is to double the overall size of this particular segment from the current 7,150 units a month," Vas said.
The company's main competitors in this segment are Honda CBR150, CBR 250 and Yamaha R15. Although the motorcycle market has been witnessing declining sales due to slowdown in rural market, Vas said the high-end segment has not been affected.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

This was more or less expected from Bajaj after the response they received with the AS and RS.

The success of RS200 will definately urge BAL to speed up lanuch of RS400. Good news for biking enthusiasts as this is one step closer to the fully desi super bikes...

1700 is real low especially considering it is in its first year of launch and given the fact that it is on par with the R15's pricing, it should be able to match the 3k units as Yamaha. If i recall correctly, in the first year of cbr250r sales, it too managed 3k units a month between April- Nov.
But now that the market has become overcrowded with all manufacturers gunning the 250-400 segment, i don't think its possible for any single manufacturer to replicate the numbers of the first entrants unless they price it very low and cross fingers to hope its a success.

This seems o be a strategic move in the right direction, in terms of running a business. However, concern lies in the fact, since production will be doubled, which means the assembly machines and the labor workforce in the factory will be working at twice their normal capacity. I just hope that the quality of the product doesn't get affected as a result! We just picked up an AS 200, so far, there's nothing to complain about!

Re: Bajaj Auto to more than double Pulsar RS200 production

I recently got a ride of Pulsar RS200, on the occasion of KTM Ajmer's 1st Anniversary. And what an eye opener it turned to be...

Guys, while good sales is appreciable, I must admit that the quality of the product has improved by leaps and bounds.
Yes, its not the NS200 league anymore. The vibes have reduced, the brakes are sharp, feet heating is non existent. The gearbox seems like its from Kawasaki, its that refined & I couldn't manage to get even one improper/ hard shift or false neutral, on a 7-8 kms ride thru city and highway.

All this is, when the bike is not even properly run in. The bike I tested was taken to 130 kmph and back by its owner, in the first 200 kms itself. And it was doing 1700 kms when I rode it. And yet, its such a masterpiece that even a Duke 390 owner is impressed. I missed ABS on that bike though, because brakes were sharp but the stock tyres, not so grippy.
From some little rpm calculations, I expect its top speed to be around 140-145. It can maintain 35 kmph in top gear with a pillion. I posted about this on my FB profile too, by the name "Samarth Singh".

Take it, test it, enjoy it, but remember, it won't feel like a NS200. For a moment, you'll think you're riding a Japanese bike. Its that good... I'm happy where Bajaj has reached!
Only thing remains to be seen is the long run ownership. Let's hope the owners won't get problems in long run, and I have no reason to believe they will...

Well it is engineered by Japanese . Kawasaki did a reverse engineering on the NS200 and suggested changes to Bajaj. Who implemented it. Because kawa needs a certain quality for its Rouser in Indonesia.

The next sportsbike from Bajaj is going to be very very good. Because Tadao Baba is developing it. He rides it at Chakan regularly .Tadao Baba san is better known as the father of the Fireblade
